摘要: The application describes an automated system for carrying out tests usi ng a cascade impactor 10 of the type having multiple impactor stages each comprising a respective stage body 30, the stage bodies being shaped to enable them to be assembled in a stack in which they locate one upon another. The stage bodies of the impactor form a conduit for through-flow of an aerosol sample. This stack has a longitudinal axis. The system includes an expander device 90 having respective arms for supporting each of the stage bodies, and a mechanism for separating the arms a long the axial direction to disassemble the impactor 10. It further comprises at least one stage recovery device for recovering material collected upon working surfaces of cascade impactor components. The recovery device has multiple vertically separated recovery stages, to which the separated components of the impactor can be concurrently delivered. Relatively moveable upper and lower parts of each recovery device define around the respective impactor components recovery chambers through which solvent is circulated to recover the collected material.

摘要: In the case of an impactor having an impact plate (10) and a classifying nozzle aimed at the impact plate, wherein the impact plate (10) catches those particles which belonged to a particular class of particles from a suspension which comprises particles that are suspended in a fluid and emerges from the classifying nozzle towards the impact plate (10), the impact plate (10) has an oscillating crystal (26) which can be used to measure the change in its mass in situ on the basis of the particles which have been caught.

摘要: An air sampler device and method for collecting airborne pathogens and psychrometric data for room or remote air samples wherein the sample volume is electronically controlled. Particulates in the air are caused to impact the surface of the growth/inhibitor media (23) contained in the pathogen dish (20) thereby depositing pathogenic microorganisms in the media. The growth/inhibitor media (23) may be a solid, liquid, gel, or mixture thereof. After the pathogen dish is incubated, colony forming units are counted for determination of air quality parameters. A chip-based sensor on printed circuit board (12) measures psychometric properties of the air sample.

摘要: The invention concerns a method for separating, by impaction, living particles and particles capable of being revived of a gas or a gas mixture under pressure, characterised in that it comprises a step (a) which consists in accelerating in a stage and along an axis (x) a single gas or gas mixture stream in a confined volume (V), to reach a speed not less than the speed of sound; a step (b) which consists in sudden deceleration of said single stream derived from step (a) in said volume, along substantially the same axis (x), at atmospheric pressure; a step (c) which consists in changing the direction of the gas or gas mixture flow at the output of the volume (V), which on average becomes radial; and a step (d) which consists in trapping said particles separated from the flow during step (c), on a target. In another embodiment, the method further comprises a step (e) which consists in counting the particles trapped during step (d). The invention also concerns a method for determining the microbiological quality of a gas under pressure, characterised in that it consists in using said alternative embodiment. The invention further concerns a device (D) designed to implement said method and its alternative embodiment comprising an element (D1) wherein the single gas stream is successively subjected to steps (a) and (b), an element (D2) constituting the target whereon the living particles or particles capable of being revived are trapped as in step (d), and securing means for making (D1) and (D2) integral, while allowing the flow of gas or of gas mixture to change direction as in step (c). The device is useful for determining the microbiological quality of a gas under pressure.

摘要: In an apparatus for collecting aerosolised respirable particles of an inhalable medicinal formulation, aerosolised formulation is drawn pneumatically through a dose collection section comprising an inlet orifice (201) and an air-permeable filter (206), the filter being positioned opposed to said orifice, and extending across the pathway (4) for filtering the pneumatic flow so as to retain particulate material therein on the filter, and the orifice (201) being so dimensioned and configured that it has an unimpeded area that is no less than 75% of the area of the filter (201) on which the dose will be collected. In a method using the apparatus, particles (209, 210) collected on the filter may optionally be subjected to a dissolution test. A good correlation is obtainable between in vitro and in vivo doses with improved independence of loading.
