    摘要: An active shunt ammeter for measuring current flowing through a device under test (DUT) and method are disclosed. The active shunt ammeter includes an input configured to receive an input signal having a frequency within a frequency band and representing the current flowing through the DUT. An output is configured to generate an output voltage representing the current flowing through the DUT. The active shunt ammeter also includes a gain circuit having an amplifier with a gain characteristic that varies respect to frequency within the frequency band and a feedback element having an impedance coupled from an output of the gain circuit to a negative input of the gain circuit, the feedback element impedance being configured to change with frequency to correlate with the amplifier gain characteristic such that the feedback element impedance divided by the amplifier gain over the frequency band has minimal frequency dependency.

A feedback transistor driven by the op amp output conducts an output current I out through a resistor to a current output node necessary to make the op amp inputs equal, such that I out is proportional to I sense . I out is conducted through a resistor to generate a ground-referred voltage proportional to V sense . When the common mode voltage of V sense is greater than the op amp's breakdown voltage, a discrete transistor is connected between the current output node and ground to stand off the voltage across the amp. The monitor circuit is arranged such that it can be powered with a limited fraction of the common mode voltage when used with a discrete transistor, and is self-biased when used without a discrete transistor.

    摘要: A circuit for sensing the current delivered to a load, or multiple loads, such presented by a polyphase DC motor, without significantly dissipating the energy delivered to the load, has a predriver circuit (30,31,32) and a power delivery circuit (40,41,42) for each load. The predriver circuit is connected in a series path between a voltage source and a control element of the power delivery circuit, and the power delivery circuit is connected between a connection node and a respective one of the loads. A sensing element (49) is connected in a series path between the source of voltage and the power delivery circuit connection node. In a preferred embodiment, the sensing element is a resistor, the predriver circuit is a PNP transistor, and the power delivery circuit is an NPN transistor. The PNP and NPN transistors are connected to form a pseudo-Darlington transistor pair, with the collectors of the NPN transistors interconnected to enable a single sense resistor to be used to sense the current in each of the loads.
