Discussed is a battery diagnosis apparatus that includes a measuring unit to measure a battery voltage at opposite ends of a battery, and a battery current flowing through the battery; a storage unit to store an internal resistance value of the battery calculated based on the battery voltage and the battery current at each diagnosis time point; and a control unit to calculate, for the each diagnosis time point, a moving average that is an average of a plurality of internal resistance values corresponding to a number of previously stored samples based on the diagnosis time point, and comparing the internal resistance value calculated for the each diagnosis time point with an upper band threshold that is larger than the moving average by a predetermined value and a lower band threshold that is smaller than the moving average by a predetermined value to diagnose a defect in the battery.

The present invention relates to a method and arrangement for classifying a voltage fault condition of a battery comprising a plurality of cells for a vehicle. The method comprises detecting a cell voltage of one of the cells (S1), determining that the cell has a voltage fault condition based on the cell voltage being outside a predetermined voltage range (S2), classifying the severity of the voltage fault condition based on the cell voltage (S3), performing at least one diagnostic test routine, based on the severity of the voltage fault condition (S4), to provide a cause for the voltage fault condition, selecting and adapting a battery operation condition, based on the severity of the voltage fault condition and the cause, such that the battery is enabled to continue to operate the vehicle (S5).

There is provided a battery remaining-life estimation apparatus that includes a memory, and a circuit. The memory is configured to store information about a polarization-voltage curve of a secondary battery, the information being stored with a correlation with a current value and a temperature of the secondary battery. The circuit is configured to estimate a remaining power of the secondary battery, the remaining power being estimated based on a discharge curve of the secondary battery. The circuit obtains the polarization-voltage curve based on the information in the memory, the polarization-voltage curve being correlated with the current value and the temperature of the secondary battery. The circuit also estimates the discharge curve by subtracting the obtained polarization-voltage curve from an open-circuit voltage curve obtained for the secondary battery.

A voltage between terminals of an electric storage device is detected with having less influence of voltage dropping caused by a resistance of a conductive member. A CPU (12) calculates a voltage value (VR) between terminals of a cell (C) based on a voltage drop value (VD) of a bus bar (B) and a voltage value (VB) between voltage detection points (P) provided on the bus bars (B). The bus bars (B) having different lengths have different resistance values, and therefore the voltage drop values of the bus bars (B) vary according to the voltage detection points (P). Even with such a configuration, the voltage value (VR) between terminals of a cell (C) can be calculated precisely with having less influence of the voltage drop value (VD) of the bus bar (B).
