It is known to treat the effluent resulting from photographic processing apparatus. Such treatment takes the form of either neutralization where the effluent is mixed with a neutralizing solution prior to disposal, or evaporation where the effluent is heated to form a precipitate and a concentrated liquid portion prior to disposal. However, both these techniques have disadvantages they do not account for toxic particles which may be suspended in the solutions. Described herein is apparatus in which photographic effluent can be treated to provide harmless end products which can be disposed of directly. The apparatus comprises a mixing unit (10) in which the effluent (S1) is mixed with treatment chemicals (S2, S3, S4, P1, P2, P3) and is then passed to a separation unit (20) in which the treated effluent is separated into non-toxic liquid and solid phases. A computer (100) is used to control all stages of the treatment of the effluent.

A novel composition for use in reducing and recovering metals, such as silver, and for use in stripping adhesive polymer layers from various polymer bases, such as polyester, and processes for using same are provided. The composition and variations thereof can be useful in separating an adhesive polymeric layer from the film for recovery of either. The composition comprises a reducing sugar/alkaline solution that is particularly useful for recovering silver from polyester photographic film where a silver halide light-sensitive emulsion layer is adhered to the polyester film by a polymeric adhesive resin, such as resins containing copolymers of polyvinylidene chloride and polyvinyl chloride. Processes for separation and recovery are also disclosed and claimed.

Il permet la récupération de l'argent, du plastique et du papier. Les films exposés et développés sont soumis à un traitement enzymatique, l'argent contenu dans la gélatine étant récupéré grâce à un processus thermique. La solution de sel fixatif désargentée au cours d'un traitement électrolytique est amenée, de concert avec la solution de révélateur, les eaux usées du matériau de film traité enzymatiquement et les autres liquides photochimiques, à une installation commune de purification des eaux usées pour y subir une oxydation catalytique. L'eau industrielle ainsi obtenue peut être amenée sans autre aux égouts et à une installation d'épuration biologique.

A support for photographic photosensitive materials which consists essentially of a magnetic recording layer, a cellulose ester layer and an intermediate layer provided between the magnetic recording layer and the cellulose ester layer consisting essentially of a polymer of which the solubility in a solvent for separation is different from the cellulose ester of the cellulose ester layer. According to the support of the invention, the magnetic recording layer is very easily separated from the cellulose ester layer, and they can easily be recycled. Moreover, magnetic properties of the support are improved.
