摘要: An erase bar for a xerographic printer, copier or the like has a row of light emitting diodes (16) for illuminating a row of pixels across the photosensitive medium of the printer. Each LED (16) is located in the bottom of a cavity (26,27). Next to the bottom of the cavity (26,27) are concave relective walls (29,31) which reflect light emitted transversely from the LED (16) toward an open end of the cavity. Reflective walls (27) of the cavity provide multiple bounces of some of the light. Absorptive walls (26) nearer the open end of the cavity (6,27) absorb some of the light. These features combine to illuminate a pixel of desired shape and with approximately uniform intensity of illumination. Additional uniformity may be provided by passing the illumination through a window (36) that is at least partly absorbing (38) for smoothing out differences in intensity.

摘要: The invention provides a charge eliminating device for (10) use with a photoreceptor drum (1). The device (10) eliminates a charge on a required portion of the surface of a photoreceptor drum (1) so that an electrostatic latent image is prevented from forming on the required portion. The device includes a circuit board for holding an electrical circuit on its surface, the circuit board having a line-shaped edge disposed to face the surface of the photoreceptor drum (1). On the circuit board is so disposed a plurality of light emitting elements (14a,...,14k) as to emit light in parallel to the surface of the circuit board in the direction to the line-shaped edge of the circuit board. The device further includes a housing (13) having a plurality of compartments each of which encloses one of the plurality of light emitting elements (14a,...,) on the circuit board and has an opening at the line-shaped edge for passing the emitted light in parallel to the surface of the circuit board to the surface of the photoreceptor.

摘要: The present invention is a light collector (36) for an LED array for efficiently collecting and collimating light from the LEDs, and projecting the light into an optical wave guide (46) which directs that light onto a photoreceptor surface. Each LED is centered in a hemispherical cavity (40) in the collector array in order that radiation from the LED enters the collector essentially unrefracted. The collector array provides a convex lens portion (32) and a parabolic reflecting surface portion (34). Light that leaves the LED generally away from the substrate supporting the LED, is incident on the convex lens and is collimated. Light leaving generally along the substrate strikes a parabolic reflecting surface at greater than the critical angle and is also collimated. The two concentric collimated beams are combined and applied to the photoreceptor surface via a light pipe or opticl wave guide secured to the collector.

摘要: A border discharge device for an electrophotographic copier comprises a row of light emitting diodes (42 to 74) positioned adjacent light channel sections (90 to 93). The channels (90, 91 and 93) provide edge erase and channel (92), together with the others, provide inter-image erase, the diodes being selectively energised to effect these functions. The channels comprise blocks of transparent material having reflective upper and lower surfaces to allow propogation of light rays from each diode to the photoconductive imaging element at a plurality of angles of incidence. Thus each channel provides a substantially uniformly illuminated strip area.
