摘要: The 3-D Model Maker (1) of the present invention is a device that builds three dimensional models of computer generated (e.g. CAD) structures by vector plotting layer-upon-layer applications of solidifiable substances. The layers are formed by expelling minuscule beads of the substances in liquid or flowable phase onto a platform (10) from one or more jets (60), the jets and platform being relatively movable in X, Y and Z coordinate system. The beads are deposited along vectors, during X/Y relative movement, on the platform (10), one at a time, layer-upon-layer, to build the model. The jets (60) and platform (10) are moved relatively to one another in accordance with instructions from the computer (controller) (11) to form each layer in the X-Y plane (in a manner analogous to an X-Y vector plotter) and either the platform (10) or the jets (60) may move in the Z direction to allow the jets to form subsquent layers.

摘要: A computer automated manufacturing process and system (CAMPS) is disclosed which includes a computer system (12) comprising a computer aided design computer (14) and a machine controller (16) which receives a file of co-ordinate information (18). An article (10) is designed by means of the computer aided design computer (14) and a data file (18) of three-dimensional co-ordinate information is compiled. The co-ordinate information is input to the machine controller (16) which controls servos (20) and (22) in a polar co-ordinate system. The servos (20) and (22) further control the position of a working head (24) and a working head (26) so that mass particles are ejected to arrive at predetermined co-ordinate points in the co-ordinate system to form an article (34). An origination seed (32) is fixed at an origin of the co-ordinate system and the article (34) is built up around the origination seed (32). Other co-ordinate systems and apparatus for locating the mass particles at the co-ordinates of a three-dimensional article are disclosed so that the article may be built up in a number of co-ordinate systems, and controlled environments.

摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for 'intelligent' control (410) of production processes such as machining, casting, heat treating and welding. The key enabler of such control is of an electro-optical (25, 95, 305, 405) or other suitable sensor type. The sensor is generally of non contact type, capable of rapidly and accurately acquiring data from parts and the tools used to produce the parts in a production 'in-process' environment. Systems are disclosed to control not only the instant operation, but those processes connected therewith, both upstream and downstream. Data bases are generated and knowledge bases are used. Application of the invention can improve quality and productivity, and allow the production of parts which have unusual or individual material characteristics (1000-1008).
