Circuits that solve stochastic problems and techniques for operating them. These natively stochastic circuits may produce samples from probability distributions of interest for particular stochastic problems, and may be combined together in any suitable way to yield potential solutions to stochastic problems. In some implementations, the stochastic circuits may generate samples from conditional probability distributions conditioned on input data provided to the stochastic circuits. The circuits may be constructed from multiple interconnected stochastic subcircuits such that a circuit may produce a sample from a joint probability distribution, or from a marginal distribution of a joint distribution. These circuits may be used to implement stochastic sampling algorithms to solve stochastic processes, and may include stochastic subcircuits that operate concurrently.

The invention relates to a codifying and storing method for membership functions (MF) representing a membership degree (α) of fuzzy variables (x) defined within a universe of discourse (U.d.D.) which is discretized into a finite number of points (n). The membership functions (MF) are quantized into a finite number of levels (p) corresponding to a finite number of membership degrees, and are stored by means of a characteristic value of each sub-set of values of fuzzy variables (x) having for their image the same value of the membership degree (α) corresponding to one of said levels. The invention further relates to a method for calculating the value of the membership degree of a fuzzy variable defined within a universe of discourse (U.d.D.) discretized into a finite number of points (n) with reference to a membership function (MF) thereof, as well as to a circuit (10) for calculating the membership degree (α) of a fuzzy variable (x) with reference to a membership function (MF) thereof.

The invention concerns a new method of controlling the movements of a multi-actuator electromechanical system which has a matrix of locally interconnected analog cells associated therewith. Each cell represents a hardware implementation of a model of fuzzy inference rules. The model is constructed as a fuzzy circuit architecture which is implemented, preferably, in the form of an integrated circuit with VLSI CMOS technology which generates and controls the reaction diffusion mechanism typical of auto-waves by means of a fuzzy neural network. This fuzzy neural network defines the functional relationships which can duplicate simultaneous reaction diffusion equations, and the duplication of such simultaneous equations is provided by two sets of fuzzy rules processing, in a linguistic manner, the state variables of the cell plurality and imposing on each cell a dynamics of the oscillatory type wherein two dynamic processes having different kynetic characteristics coexist.

Erfindungsgemäß ist eine Verarbeitungseinrichtung (1) vorgesehen, welcher über eine Eingabeeinrichtung (4) eine Mehrzahl von unterschiedlichsten Parametern (P 1 ; P 1.1 ; P 1.2 ) zugeführt werden. Gleichzeitig ruft die Verarbeitungseinrichtung (1) in einem ersten Speicher (2) abgelegte Verknüpfungsregeln (R 1 ) sowie aus einem zweiten Speicher (3) abgelegte Daten (D 1 ) der auswählbaren Gegenstände ab und verknüpft mittels der Verknüpfungsregeln (R 1 ) die eingegebenen Parameter (P 1 ) mit den Daten (D 1 ) der auswählbaren Gegenstände. Aufgrund der Verknüpfung werden von der Verarbeitungseinrichtung (1) spezifische einzelne oder Gruppen von Gegenständen (F 1 - F 3 ) ausgewählt. Die Erfindung dient zur Auswahl von komplexen Gegenständen, welche von einer großen Anzahl von unscharfen, zum Teil auch gegensätzlichen Parametern bestimmt ist.
