The control server according to an embodiment of this application includes: a first CPU configured to receive traffic data, which is provided by at least one of the plurality of field devices and transmitted by a second CPU, to store, analyze, and process the traffic data, and to generate the first control instruction; and the second CPU configured to receive the traffic data provided by the at least one of the plurality of field devices and to transmit the traffic data to the first CPU; and to receive the first control instruction generated by the first CPU, and to control and manage the field device according to the first control instruction.

The method includes receiving the cloud-enhanced traffic controller comprising a memory storing a connection agent and a unique identification assigned to the cloud-enhanced traffic controller and connecting the cloud-enhanced traffic controller to the traffic signal and to a communications network, wherein based upon detecting that the cloud-enhanced traffic controller is connected to the communications network, the connection agent establishes a secure connection to a web service. The invention relates to a traffic signal control system for controlling a plurality of signal junctions comprising a signal group oriented multi-agent control scheme, each agent operates independently and represents one or more traffic signals at a signal junction; means for each agent for determining traffic conditions at its signal junction and traffic conditions at neighbouring agents; and means for applying fuzzy logic in signal control operations, wherein signal control operation is based on traffic conditions at each agent and one or more neighbouring agents, such that the control operation is distributed to each agent to control each of said plurality of signal junctions. An advantage of the system is that this approach in combining the flexible signal group control with the artificial intelligence of fuzzy logic dynamic control is achieved. The operation of the control system is based on detector data input, that is refined to real time traffic situation model. Through the traffic model, the decision part of the system (fuzzy logic) is observing the traffic situation in the whole intersection. The signal control operation is based on signal group orientation, in which the control operation is distributed to several signal group agents.

A traffic routing system reduces emissions from commuter and other traffic, eases congestion on roadways, and decreases transit time by use of communications among vehicles and traffic controls, such as traffic lights. In one aspect, a traffic light receives a signal that a vehicle is approaching and in response turns green to allow the vehicle to pass without impairment. In another aspect, a vehicle receives a signal to adjust a current rate of speed to arrive when a traffic signal allows vehicles to pass. In still another aspect, a combination of congestion, emergency traffic, roadwork and similar factors influence proposed routes sent to vehicles.

The invention relates to a traffic control system for influencing a traffic flow in a limited road or traffic network comprising junctions, e.g. of a big city, light signal installations (LSA) corresponding to a number of junctions N and having individual controls, the signal plans currently determining the way in which said individual controls are controlled being forwarded to a traffic computer. Detectors are used in conjunction with the light signal installations (LSA) and acquire traffic data and forward them to the traffic computer. The traffic computer is adapted to operate, owing to the implementation of evolutionary algorithms or genetic algorithms including an associated termination criterion (termination) in such a manner that updated signal plans can be supplied to all N light signal installations (LSA) within a suitable time frame to optimize the traffic flow owing to the traffic flow of the road network determined by the detected traffic data. A repair mechanism is utilized when relative coding is used, or sequential coding is used to obtain the suitable time frame within which the phase transitions, which are part of a signal plan, may take place. The invention further relates to a method for operating the traffic control to influence the traffic flow and to a computer program product.

A traffic control system is provided including an arrangement of traffic lights (2) at a traffic intersection (1 ), and a radar sensor (5) installed at the intersection such that its field and range of detection (6) covers at least one approach to the intersection. The radar sensor (5) is adapted to sense the presence of vehicles within a predetermined field of view and range. A controller (8) for switching the traffic lights is operated by an electronic processor (7,11) utilising information developed from data inputted from the radar sensor (5). The radar sensor (5) is a multi-object radar sensor capable of developing data from which the location, speed, acceleration or deceleration, and direction of travel of each vehicle within its field and range of detection can be derived. The operation of the traffic lights (2) is dependent, at least to some extent, on the number of vehicles (16) sensed within said field and range or the behavioural pattern of one or more vehicles within said field and range, or both. Preferably, a multi-object radar sensor (5) is provided for each approach to the intersection (1 ). The electronic processor may be programmed to provide an output on the basis of computational or artificial intelligence optionally in combination with one or more appropriate algorithms.

A traffic-preemption system and method that communicates an identification code from vehicles to a traffic location. Traffic light control equipment, such as a receiver and traffic light circuit at each intersection of a controlled area, is used to manage headway in mass-transit systems as well as to provide traffic light pre-emption for emergency vehicles. Each traffic light circuit in the controlled area has a receiver located at a traffic location and adapted to receive an identification code from a mass-transit vehicle. A decoding circuit responds to the received identification code by attempting to identify the mass-transit vehicle and determine the timing on the identified route that improves an identified vehicle's headway and/or route timing. In response to determining the timing, a traffic-preemption command is generated for a traffic light on the identified route.
