[Problem to be Solved] To provide a decontamination method and system for soil and the like for decontaminating soil of, for example, fields, and water contaminated with radioactive materials reliably and rapidly on site, aiming to perform decontamination with precision and improved efficiency. According to the present invention, the decontaminated soil is improved by adding soil activators, and then the improved soil is returned to the original field readily to promote the restart of farming. Further, according to the present invention, the radioactive materials adhering to or deposited on the soil are separated from the soil and then concentrated precisely. According to the invention, a reduction in the volume of the contaminated soil and a safe treatment of the radioactive materials are achieved. Further, according to the invention, decontamination of radioactive cesium and tritium is achieved, thereby relieving anxiety of internal exposure to the radiation of tritium. Further, the decontamination apparatus can be disposed of efficiently and safely. [Solving Means] An object to be decontaminated contaminated with radioactive material is introduced into the eluting solvent 49 and dissolved, and the radioactive material is separated from the eluting solvent 49. Unsettling flows in water may exceed approximately 2 m/s for radionuclide particles and solutes found in nuclear power plants. Mobile apparatuses (300) discharge pressurized liquid (352) from a pump or pressurized source (354) that can be chemically and thermally treated to maximize deposition removal. When spraying the pressurized liquid (352) to create the deposition-removing flow, mobile apparatuses (300) may be self-propelled within the fluid about an entire surface to be cleaned. Mobile apparatuses (300) include filters (350) keyed to remove the contaminants moved into the coolant by the flow, and by taking in ambient fluid, enable such filtering of the ambient fluid along with a larger flow volume and propulsion. Propulsion and the pressurized liquid (352) in turn enhance intake of ambient fluid.

The invention provides a method for the decontamination of a contaminated system, the method comprising at least the steps of: (a)selecting a decontaminating agent; (b)applying said decontaminating agent to said system; (c)collecting the used decontaminating agent; and (d)electrochemically treating the used decontaminating agent. Embodiments of the invention may further include at least one of an initial characterisation step, a chemical dosing step between steps (c) and (d), prior to electrochemical treatment of the used decontaminating agent, a subsequent characterisation step, wherein the system is re-evaluated in order to determine whether the decontamination objectives have been successfully accomplished, a UV-irradiation treatment, and a final step comprising post-treatment of the effluent remaining after the electrochemical treatment. The invention also envisages a method for the removal of contaminants from a process or environmental stream. The methods of the invention find particular application in the treatment of systems comprising radioactivity.
