A high voltage conductor (100) for transmitting high voltage is provided. The high voltage conductor comprises a power wire (140), a fault detection unit (160), and a monitoring unit (170). The power wire (140) is configured for transmission of electrical energy. The fault detection unit (160) is configured for detecting an electromagnetic field emanated by the power wire, and the monitoring unit (170) is configured for detection of degradation in an isolation of the high voltage conductor. The monitoring unit is connected to the fault detection unit and is configured to receive an electrical signal induced in the fault detection unit, which electrical signal is induced as a result of a degradation of the isolation of the high voltage conductor. Thus, degradation of the isolation of the high voltage conductor may be recognized at an early stage.

Bei Detektion einer Schutzleiterunterbrechung identifiziert die Überwachungsschaltung (2) dies als einen ersten Fehlerfall (F1) und gibt ein erstes Fehlersignal (S1) aus. Die Überwachungsschaltung (2) ist ergänzend zur Speicherung des ersten Fehlerfalls (F1) ausgebildet und gibt im Falle einer nur temporären, nicht mehr vorliegenden Schutzleiterunterbrechung ein zweites Fehlersignal (S2) aus. Durch diese Maßnahme wird ein verbesserter Personenschutz auch beispielsweise bei Wackelkontakten etc. erzielt.

The invention relates to a control unit for a motor vehicle. Said control unit comprises a voltage converter which has an inlet for a direct voltage network. Said voltage converter is designed to generate a direct voltage smaller than an input voltage on the inlet for the direct voltage network and the direct voltage is emitted on the outlet side. According to the invention, the voltage converter comprises an inverter and a transformer which is connected to said inverter. Said voltage converter also comprises an inlet for a discharge signal and is designed to discharge by means of the inverter an intermediate circuit capacitor which is connected to the inlet of the direct voltage network in accordance with the discharge signal, and to reduce a working frequency of the inverter, in particular, compared to the frequency with no discharge signal.

The apparatus also includes means for implementing a first algorithm for identifying the discontinuity or impedance irregularity in presence of allowable variation in voltage and/or current flow that may mimic or hide a discontinuity or impedance irregularity in the active line, neutral return line and/or earth return path including a reverse current flow through the earth return path. The apparatus further includes means for comparing a result of the measuring with a reference to provide an indication of the discontinuity or impedance irregularity. A method for detecting a discontinuity or impedance irregularity in an active line, a neutral return line and/or an earth return path of an electrical power distribution network is also disclosed.

The continuity of the coil (11) of the actuating solenoid (9) of an electric power switch (1) is detected through utilization of a signaling device (45), such as a light emitting diode (LED) that monitors energization of a dc power supply (25) fed from the source side of the coil (11). A circuit (51) energized from the other side of the coil (11) generates a dc voltage V2 that is applied to the gate electrode of an electronic switch (47) shunting the LED (45). The voltage V2 is greater than the dc supply voltage to bias the electronic switch (47) off so that the LED (45) is illuminated when there is continuity through the coil (11). If the coil (11) fails, V2 will be zero and the electronic switch (47) is turned on to short circuit the LED (45) to signal the failure of the coil (11).
