When power is restored after a power outage, a controller of the uninterruptible power supply system controls the rectifier to keep its DC output voltage sufficiently low so that only the flywheel system of the flywheel system/battery combination is initially recharged. An energy storage device is configured to supply a first portion of power of an electrical power as a total load power and an engine-driven electrical machine is configured to supply a second portion of power of the total load power. A power converter is electrically coupled to the energy storage device and the engine-driven electrical machine such that the power converter is configured to supply the total load power to an electrical load device. A controller is coupled to the power converter and the controller receives characteristic data from at least one of the energy storage device, the engine-driven electrical machine, and the electrical load device. Based on the received characteristic data, the controller determines a power sharing proportion of a power sharing amount of each of the first portion of power and the second portion of power of the total load power to be supplied via the power converter to the electrical load device.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for supplying hybrid power by using regenerative power generated at an offshore plant. According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is an apparatus for supplying hybrid power of an offshore plant, the apparatus comprising: a generator; an AC/DC converter converting, into direct current, alternating current generated from the generator so as to supply the direct current to a DC bus; a power load connected to the DC bus so as to generate regenerative power; a first power storage unit for storing power when a voltage of the DC bus is maintained at a level of a first threshold value or higher for a first time period, and supplying the stored power to the DC bus when the voltage of the DC bus is maintained at a level of a second threshold value or lower for a second time period; and a first resistance unit for consuming power when the voltage of the DC bus is maintained at the level of the first threshold value or higher for a third time period, wherein the third time period is longer than the first time period.

The invention in the simplest form is an improved hybrid power converter with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and power quality capabilities as well as an integrated variable speed power source and control method that is used to generate high quality, uninterruptible AC power utilizing fewer batteries and operating at optimum fuel efficiency and with reduced emissions. The variable speed generator control scheme allows for load adaptive speed control of a power source such as an engine (20) and generator (10). The transformerless hybrid power converter topology and control method provides the necessary output frequency, voltage and/or current waveform regulation, harmonic distortion rejection, and provides for single-phase or unbalanced loading. The transformerless hybrid power converter also provides inline or offline UPS capability, line voltage and/or frequency sag and surge compensation, peak shaving capability, VAR compensation and active harmonic filtering.
