An RF power oscillator for contactless card antennas shapes a carrier signal at the operating frequency utilizing a delay circuit having a number of taps for delaying the carrier signal by different lengths of time. The delayed signals are input into a buffer and output through resistors to a node coupled to the antenna. The resulting waveform for a square wave input signal, and equal-length delay taps, is a trapezoidal wave output. Any input wave form can be shaped in a variety of ways depending upon the combinations of delay taps used. Since the buffer drivers for each delayed wave switch state at slightly different times, the amplitude and bandwidth of emitted electromagnetic interference (EMI) is reduced for the transmission circuit.

A method of controlling an output of a generator is provided. The output provides an output signal having a settling time to a load having an impedance. The settling time of the output signal is determined. The output signal is amplitude modulated with a modulation waveform. A sense signal is generated that is representative of the modulated output signal. The sense signal is sampled at a sampling time based upon the settling time of the output signal. A digital representation of the sampled sense signal is generated. The amplitude modulation of the output is controlled based upon the digital representation of the sampled sense signal.

A series arrangement of power supply modules, conventionally disposed in a diode cascade, includes individual inductors to apportion the input impedance of the switching power supplies. The switching sequence of the power supplies is controlled by a FIFO buffer, with the sequentially adjacent power supplies being disposed physically remote so that current transients and thermal loads are more uniformly distributed.

An AM (Amplitude-Modulated) transmitter (1) capable of improving modulation distortion is provided. An adder (20) adds a modulation signal to a pre-set power reference signal. An APC (Automatic Power Control) amplifier (21) compares a level of a detecting signal outputted by the LPF (Low Pass Filter) (14) with a level of an adder signal. The APC amplifier (21), based on the comparison result, generates a gain controlling signal that makes a difference between a level of the detecting signal and level of the signal approach zero and feeds the gain controlling signal to a power amplifier (13). The power amplifier (13) modulates the signal outputted from the amplifier by the gain controlling signal and power-amplifies the modulated signal according to a level of the gain controlling signal. Since the APC amplifier (21) feeds the gain controlling signal to the power amplifier (13), a modulation degree does not depend on a nonlinear distortion characteristic of the power amplifier.
