An inter-carrier interference (ICI) mitigation circuit associated with an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) receiver is disclosed. The ICI mitigation circuit comprises an ICI cancellation circuit configured to receive an OFDM symbol associated with an OFDM signal and determine an ICI associated with one or more OFDM subcarriers within the OFDM symbol. The ICI cancellation circuit is further configured to cancel the ICI from the one or more OFDM subcarriers associated with the OFDM symbol, in order to generate a desired OFDM symbol. In some embodiments, the ICI is determined and cancelled at the ICI cancellation circuit, in accordance with a predetermined ICI mitigation algorithm.

A receiver for a modulated signal of a communication system, comprises a demodulator to demodulate the received modulated symbols of a received signal into received soft-bits. A hard-decision decoder is arranged and configured to decode the received soft-bits into decoded bits. A feedback loop is arranged to provide feedback from the hard decision decoder to the demodulator. the feedback loop is configured to re-encode the decoded bits from the hard-decision decoder into re-encoded bits. The demodulator is further arranged and configured to iteratively demodulate the received modulated signal using an output of the feedback loop.

A precoding method, a precoding apparatus, a Frequency Domain Equalization (FDE) method, and an FDE apparatus are provided in the embodiments of the present invention. The precoding method includes: performing offset modulation for a transmitting signal vector; calculating a precoding matrix according to the offset-modulated transmitting signal vector and a receiver decision signal vector, where the precoding matrix is used for performing precoding for the transmitting signal vector; and performing precoding for the transmitting signal vector according to the precoding matrix. Linear precoding is performed by using the offset-modulated signal on the transmitter, and therefore, the interference caused by multiple antennas and multipath propagation is reduced, the system BER is reduced, and the complexity of implementation is low.

An equalizer for a multi carrier signal for carrying out equalization adapted to each carrier or group of carriers, Fourier transforms the multi carrier signal, and obtains difference terms of the multi carrier signal. Both are input to an adaptive filter, to output equalized signals, wherein decimation is applied to at least some of the difference terms input to the filter. This is notable for enabling the complexity to be reduced for a given performance level. In particular since only non-zero filter taps need to be stored and updated, coefficient memory and coefficient calculation capacity can be reduced. Another way to reduce complexity involves measuring noise for at least some of the carriers, and dynamically adapting the size of the filter on a per carrier basis according to global optimizion euristic algorithms which adapt this filter size based on the comparison between this noise and an optimal performance figure achieved in a previous ISI-ICI free measurement phase.
