Each participant is connected to a switching matrix and to an Active Speech Detector. Speech activity is used as criteria, by a control unit, to link/disconnect participant to an I/O port of the bridge. In further embodiments the participants are divided into three groups: "Talkers" are directly connected to the bridge. "Potential talkers" is the above described group. "Listeners" are only connected to the output port of the bridge. The group differentiation can be performed by an operator, by dialling different numbers, or automatically by means of a participant profile database (e.g. president, directors, workers).
