L'invention permet l'équipement et l'assemblage de douilles-équerre, de façon complètement automatique, toutes les opérations s'enchaînant selon un flux continu.

A machine and washer (18) for fastening one or more layers of roofing material (12) to an underlayment, includes a chute (50) which receives a stack of washers (18), a shuttle (70) which displaces a single washer (18′) to a separated position when moves in one direction, to which the shuttle is biased and releases the single washer (18′) when moves oppositely, and a gate (80), which cooperates with camming surfaces (18b) on the respective washers (18), restrains the overlying washer (18˝) in the stack (S) against being displaced with the single washer (18′) and restrains the single washer (18′) from being displaced from the separated position. Various components are provided by linking a stand-up screw gun (160 Figure 1) of a known type to the shuttle. The stackable washer (18) is embossed (352,354,356,358) so that each such washer and like overlying and underlying washers in a stack contact each other at three or more places, which define tangent planes intersecting planes defined by planar areas on such washers at angles more than 45° but less than 90° whereby such washers are spaced from each other around their entire peripheries (306) (Figures 22 and 23). Notches (64,66) in the washers (18) cooperate with ribs (60,62) in the chute (50) to ensure that a stack (S) of the washers is orineted properly when fitted into the chute (50).

The present invention is directed to a deck screw (10) intended for use with composite lumber, although it can be used with other wood products, such as pressure treated lumber. The deck screw of the present invention may be provided with a head (12) and a shaft (14) that has two regions of varying diameter. The upper region (16) has threads that exceed the number of threads of the lower shaft (18), on a unit length basis. The threads (17) of the upper shaft may be configured in an inverted buttress design. The lower region (18) of the shaft terminates at a tapered distal end (20) having a pointed tip (22) that leads the screw through the wood material. Threads (19) are provided on the lower region (18) of the shaft. The head (22) of the screw is provided with an upper surface (28), a lower surface (30), and a crown (32) that extends around the perimeter of the head. The crown (32) extends beyond the lower surface (30) of the head (12), forming a recessed region between the lower edge of the crown (32) and the shaft (14) of the screw. The head (12) may also be provided with an undercut (42). Further, the head (12) of the screw may be provided with a square driver opening (24) that permits the persons installing the screw to use a square bit. For instance the opening may be a #2 square driver opening. It should be understood that Phillips heads or flat heads in various sizes might also be employed.

The endmost fastener (10EM) is driven onto the edge portion of the support plate or panel (120). The wedge shaped, fastener separator-driver (130,260) may be either pneumatically driven or manually driven whereby the installation tool may comprise either a pneumatically-operable tool (110) or a manually operable tool (210).
