A papermaker's or industrial fabric and method of manufacturing comprising providing a base material comprising fabric strips having a lateral fringe comprising yarns that extend beyond a lateral edge, depositiing polymeric resin material on said lateral fringe at preselected discrete locations where yarns of a lateral fringe overlap with yarns of an adjacent strip in a controlled manner in droplets and at least partially setting the polymeric resin material to bond the yarns together.

The invention is directed to a method for treating a textile material with a crosslinkable high density polyethylene based elastomer compound, such treated material for use in reinforced elastomeric articles. In one embodiment, a crosslinkable high density polyethylene based elastomer compound is applied in particle form to a surface of a textile material having a plurality of interstices (30). The particles are of a size no greater than about 35 mesh and include a peroxide curing agent. Next, the particles are melted so as to impregnate the interstices (30) of the textile material with the compound. Then, the compound is crosslinked in-situ via the peroxide curing agent. In one example, the rubber compound includes about 80 parts per hundred cross-linkable material (phcm) to 100 phcm crosslinkable high density polyethylene. The resulting textile material may be used as a facing fabric (15), e.g., in a reinforced elastomeric article, such as a toothed power transmission belt (10).

Composite yarns, comprising one or more elastomeric fibers and hard yarns, are formed by adhering the elastomeric fibers and hard yarns together using a size material. The size-covered composite yarn can be used in weaving and knitting to make stretch fabrics with desired garment characteristics. The size material may be removed by subsequent wet fabric processing.

A reinforcing fabric (101) or (30) contains a layer of reinforcing fibers (12), (10a) and (10b), and a polymeric coating (15) holds the fibers (12), (10a) and (10b) while the fibers are under mechanical strain to increase the thickness of the layer by at least about 50%. The warp yarns (12) are held under tension in a tenter frame (105) while applying the polymeric coating (15). A matrix material is reinforced by the reinforcing fabric (101) or (30). The matrix material is, a soil reinforcement material, a pipe forming material, a road surfacing material, a cement board material, a gypsum board material, a roofing membrane material, a roofing shingle material, a textile material, or a surgical cast material.
