    摘要: The invention relates to a tool changer for machine tools, comprising at least two tong-type grippers (16), whose limbs (17, 18) are configured to engage in the annular groove (23) at the wider end of a tool taper. The grippers (16) are axis-symmetrically mounted on a support (13) that can be rotated about its center axis (15), the bit pointing outward. The support (13) is mounted on a support construction (11, 12) that is provided with a drive for displacing the support. In order to prevent the tool taper from prematurely coming loose from the chuck disposed in the work spindle and to allow for a faster tool change, at least one limb (18) of the grippers (16) is extended to give a salient retaining finger (20).

    摘要: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for selectively and simultaneously drilling a plurality of holes in thin panels such as printed circuit boards, while providing for automatic changing of the drill bits, individually or plurally, as required. A tray of drill bits (42) is driveable in X and a row of vacuum pickers (20) are driveable in Y, so that the various bit locations of the tray (42) are addressable by such X-Y positioning, and selectable vacuum pickers (20, 34) are extensible and retractable so as to pick and place the drill bits (74) at various matrix locations of the tray (42). The vacuum pickers (20, 34) also are extensible and retractable through corresponding tray openings (48) in order to deliver replacement bits (74) to, and retrieve used bits from, a flipper assembly (111) associated with each drilling module (50). Each flipper assembly (111) transfers bits back and forth between the vacuum picker and drill without having to transfer either bit through the opening in a footprint portion of the pressure foot (90) which engages the materials to be drilled during the drilling operation. Thus, the footprint opening may be made smaller in diameter than depth stop collars or the like which are of greater diameter than the working portion of the bit which is advanced through the footprint opening during drilling. This smaller footprint opening of the pressure foot is for minimizing or eliminating hole "smears" and for overcoming problems normally associated with the so-called "oil can effect".
