摘要： The present invention is in the field of tobacco conditioning, which is performed generally after curing and before baling. It has been identified that cured tobacco is very brittle and difficult to handle without damaging the tobacco leaf. In order to address this issue an apparatus for post-curing conditioning of tobacco is provided. The apparatus includes a tobacco chamber for storing cured tobacco leaves for conditioning; and an air processing facility which includes: a ventilation system for creating an airflow through the apparatus, wherein said airflow is drawn into the air processing facility, passes from the air processing facility into the tobacco chamber, and subsequently exits the apparatus; a heater for adding heat to the airflow; and a humidity generator for adding moisture to the airflow.

摘要： A method and apparatus for monitoring two components of an object, such as moisture content and density in a tobacco rod, using scattered electromagnetic radiation are provided. Both the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant of water vary greatly over frequencies in the gigahertz region while those of the remaining constituents of tobacco do not. At frequencies approaching 100 GHz, the real part of the dielectric constant of water is much closer to that of many organic polymers, such as those making up tobacco, than it is at lower frequencies. At frequencies approaching 100GHz the imaginary part is much lower than it is is in the region of 20 to 30 GHz. By comparing the scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a cigarette rod at two different frequencies and using a predetermined calibration curve based on a cigarette rod having a desired moisture content and density, one can determine the moisture content and density of the cigarette rod. If the monitoring is taking place on a cigarette making machine and the moisture content and density deviate from their desired values, the machine feeds can be adjusted automatically to restore the desired moisture content and density.

摘要： There is provided an apparatus for processing consumer goods, particularly for manufacturing or packaging components of a tobacco product. The apparatus comprises spraying means for delivering flows of a mixture of gas and liquid into an operative region associated with the apparatus and sensor means for determining an environmental parameter in the operative region. Further, the apparatus comprises a control unit operatively connected to the spraying means and to the sensor means. The control unit is adapted to adjust the flow delivered by the spraying means in response to the environmental parameter determined by the sensor means in the operative region.
