@ An endodontic irrigating instrument comprises a handpiece having an internal liquid passage therethrough extending from a liquid inlet formed in the proximal end of the handpiece to a liquid ejection nozzle provided at the distal end. The handpiece incorporates a suction or vacuum pump of the airjet or ejector type which comprises an air nozzle connected by a passage with an air inlet formed also in the proximal end of the handpiece. The vacuum chamber of the suction pump is connected by a separate internal passage in the handpiece with an aspiration needle provided adjacent to the liquid ejection nozzle. The proximal end of the handpiece is designed to be fitted with a coupling joint attached to a multiple-channel flexible hose which is conventionally used to supply compressed air and pressurized water from a dental unit to conventional air-driven dental turbine tools. Thus, the endodontic irrigating instrument can be used interchangeably with existing turbine tools.

A guide groove (5) is formed in the inner cylinder (2), having a vertical width into which the tip of the eccentric part (3b) is inserted and having a length elongated in the circumferential direction thereof. The cutter also has a grip cylinder (7) which is inserted into the inner cylinder (2), moves with the sliding of the inner cylinder (2), and detachably grips a cutting blade (11).

A vibratory endodontic device includes a housing (12), a vibratory drive means (42) supported within the housing to minimise the transfer of vibration to the housing, an endodontic file (207) connected to the drive means for vibratory movement and stop means (214) operatively connected to the housing and substantially isolated from the mechanical vibrations created by the vibratory drive means. Additionally, fluid transport means (221) is provided for maintaining a controllable or a continuous flow of irrigation fluid along the endodontic file. Various assemblies for retaining the endodontic files and the stop means at the operative end of the vibrating device are also described. The vibratory drive means and supports are arranged to generate an oscillatory motion which is translated to the file as simultaneous perpendicular and parallel vibrations relative to the longitudinal axis of the vibratory drive means.

The grommet thimble (10) has an inner bore having a diameter which is at least as large as the diameter of the root canal (14), and the reconstruction pin (90) comprises a support portion (94) adapted to fit mating-wise into the inner bore for supporting the reconstruction pin (90) in the grommet thimble (10). The reconstruction pin (90) also comprises a canal portion (91), extending from the support portion (94) for penetrating a root canal (14) to a prescribed depth measured from the grommet thimble (10).

Disclosed is a probe for dental therapy and examination, which comprises an elongate bundle (1) of fibers extending generally parallel to the axis of elongation. The bundle is narrowed at one or both of its ends (2, 2'. 2"), and the fibers are secured to each other so that the fiber bundle (1) is coherent but the fibers define capillary passageways (5) therebetween. The narrowed ends(s) (2) may have a globular enlargement (3) or may be sharp ended (2') or blunt-ended (2"). One end of the bundle may be enlarged to form a handle portion (6).
