The invention relates to a metal extrusion press (1), in particular a horizontal metal extrusion press (1), comprising a charging device (7) for charging an ingot to be extruded (6) into an ingot receptacle. According to the invention, the charging device (7) brings an ingot (6) that is received in a charging position and held in a charging tray (18) into the centre or the axis (8) of the extrusion press in order to insert it into the ingot receptacle. The charging device (7) of said metal extrusion press comprises an ingot insertion unit (28) which contains two intercoupled motion-dependent sliding cylinders (29a, 29b). Said cylinders (29a, 29b) are fixed by their piston-rod heads (31a, 31b) to a linear guided insertion finger (25) and their cylinder bases are likewise pivotally mounted in bearing rings (30a, 30b).

Verfahren zum Strangpressen eines Profiles od. dgl. Körpers aus einem Barren (24), der in einer Rezipientenbohrung (22) eines Aufnehmers (18) geführt und mittels eines Pressstempels (16) in Pressrichtung einem Formquerschnitt eines Formwerkzeuges (32) zugeführt wird. Vor Eintritt des Barrens (24) in den Formquerschnitt wird der Barren (24) in Pressrichtung um ein Kragmass aus dem Aufnehmer (18) geschoben. Danach wird ein dabei entstehender scheibenartiger Abschnitt (48) des freien Barrenendes abgeschert und entfernt sowie letzteres anschliessend an den Formquerschnitt gebracht. Vorteilhaft wird ein verbleibender Pressrest an der gegen die Pressrichtung weisenden Werkzeugfläche eines voraufgegangenen Barrens und der scheibenartige Abschnitt des freien Barrenendes zeitgleich abgeschert.

A method for feeding billets in horizontal extruding presses which comprises the opening of the container (12), the cutting off of the surplus of the extruded billet simultaneously to the supplying of a new billet (13) in line with the container (12) and to a simultaneous withdrawal of the press shank (17) after each extruding operation and with the withdrawl of the main piston (14a) ; then the advancing of the pusher (16a) for the insertion of a new billet (13) into the container (12) which is still open and the simultaneous withdrawal of the billet shear (15) and of the feeder means for the supplying of the billet (13); the closing of the container (12) when the pusher (16a) retracts and the movement of the press shank (17) on the axis of the container (12); finally the advancing of the main piston (14a) for the inserting of the press shank (17) into the container (12) for the extrusion operation.
