The cutting inserts (10) are arranged to produce a profile (60) on a workpiece (62) having a central straight section (60) and two beveled sections (60', 60'') on either side of the central straight section (60).

    摘要: A machine tool for machining a workpiece (2) comprises a machine base (18), a workpiece holder (14) supported by the machine base for holding a workpiece (2), the holder being rotatable about an axis (15), and a workpiece rotary drive (10, Mw, Ew) for rotating the holder about the axis. A tool mount (16) is supported by the machine base for carrying a tool (4) to be engaged with a workpiece held in the holder, and a drive arrangement is operable to move the workpiece holder and the tool mount relative to each other in a plane which is transverse with respect to the axis. A control arrangement (6) is configured to control the workpiece rotary drive and the drive arrangement so as to machine a surface profile on the workpiece which is non- equidistant from the axis (15) in a plane which is transverse with respect to the axis, such that a tool (4) mounted in the mount is engaged with the workpiece (2) to commence the machining operation whilst the workpiece is being rotated by the workpiece drive. A method of machining a workpiece is also provided.

    摘要: High precision machining is enabled by eliminating the need for a conventional swiveling table, and by enhancing rigidity for supporting a work by relatively reducing the distance from the upper surface of a stationary body section (1) to the position for machining a work by means of a tool on a rotary spindle (17). A pair of guide tracks (28a, 28b) respectively passing two positions separated in the X axis direction of the stationary body section (1) and in the Z direction intersecting the X axis direction perpendicularly are allowed to guide feed tables (30a, 30b) to be movable independently. A support/feed/turn output member (25) is latched to bridge the feed tables (30a, 30b) on the guide tracks (28a, 28b), one feed table (30a) and the support/feed/turn output member (25) are coupled to rotate relatively about a line in the Y axis direction which intersects perpendicularly both the X axis direction and the Z axis direction, the other feed table (30b) and the support/feed/turn output member (25) are coupled to rotate relatively about a line in the Y axis direction and to displace relatively in a specific direction related to the positions of the both feed tables (30a, 30b), and a means (35) for regulating relative displacement in the specific direction is provided additionally.
