They include a rotary drum, an accumulation nip, a blanket that positions the film against the drum, and a blanket tensioner located away from the accumulation nip. The drum includes at least one seal bar mounted thereon, and the accumulation nip provides the film to the drum. Various aspects include the accumulation nip being in a fixed position independent of changes of the drum diameter, and/or the path from the accumulation nip to the drum being fixed in length, independent of changes of the drum diameter. An accumulation sensor and a controller that controls the accumulation nip speed and the drum speed in response to the sensor are provided in one embodiment. The speed control is in response to the speed of the film, the rate of change of a function of the input, response history, and/or a setpoint, in various alternatives. A drawtape module and a powered unwind are disposed in a single module with the rotary drum, in another embodiment. A registration mark sensor is located upstream of the accumulation nip, along a path having a fixed length to the drum, in another embodiment. The sensor may be a print sensor.

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing and filling sacks comprising at least four longitudinal seams. According to prior art, the production of said sacks generally involves the longitudinal welding of a flat film to form a tubular section. The tubular section is cut into individual tubular pieces, which are provided with additional longitudinal weld seams. Both the transport of the individual tubular pieces and the subsequent introduction of the latter into a sack forming and filling process are complex. The devices used in this process are expensive and prone to faults. The aim of the invention is to provide a more cost-effective method for producing and filling sacks. To achieve this, the material that forms the sacks is supplied from an unwinding device (2, 3, 5) in the form of a tubular material (4) to a sack forming device (1) and the tubular material (4) is provided with longitudinal seams (29) in the sack forming device (1), said seams extending over a large part of the sacks (27).

To produce reinforcing seams (3) embodied in extension of the broad lateral walls (4, 7) of the film bag (1) the device (10) has a forming and folding unit (35). The forming and folding unit (35) comprises two forming plates (36, 37) fixed to the forming tube (21) and a folding frame (38) with folding elements (61, 62). The device (10) provided for in the invention has a relatively simple structure and makes it possible to form the reinforcing seams (3) in a way which subjects the bag material to only little stress.
