An adhesive composition for organic fiber cords comprises: a first bath treatment liquid; and a second bath treatment liquid, wherein the first bath treatment liquid is a composition containing an epoxy compound and an isocyanate compound, and the second bath treatment liquid is a composition containing a polyphenol compound except resorcin and an aromatic ring-containing aldehyde compound.

The invention relates to an aqueous adhesive composition comprising at least A) a phenol-aldehyde resin and B) an unsaturated elastomer latex, characterised in that the phenol-aldehyde resin is based on at least an aromatic polyaldehyde carrying at least two aldehyde functions and having at least one aromatic core, and 2,2',4,4'-tetrahydroxydiphenyl sulfide. An adhesive composition exhibiting an adequately controlled adhesive bonding strength when paper sheets coated therewith are bonded together and adapted for subsequent separation of the bonded sheets of paper by peeling comprises as essential ingredients: (a) a rubber latex; (b) a silica gel powder having a specified average particle diameter; and (c) a starch, preferably having a specified particle diameter, e.g. wheat starch, each in a specified weight proportion. In addition to good balance between reliability of the adhesive bonding and subsequent peelability, a paper sheet coated with the adhesive composition is protected from decrease in adhesiveness even when the surface is contaminated with a silicone oil and from problems due to blocking when adhesive-coated sheets are stacked one on the other with the adhesive-coated surfaces in direct contact with each other.

Known adhesive compositions for edge-padding a stack of sets of collated sheets of carbonless copy paper have not provided both good fanout and good adhesion within individual sets unless used with carbonless copy paper of the company that supplies the adhesive. This problem is here resolved by using a water-based adhesive composition that differs from those in current use simply by adjusting the amount and type of monohydric and polyhydric alcohol. Best results are attained when the polyhydric alcohol is noncrystalline sorbitol.
