Process for the manufacture of a metal complex grease composition comprising the steps of: (i) preparing a slurry comprising base oil, water, metal base and complexing agent, wherein the weight ratio of water : solid in the slurry is in the range of from 0.15:1 to 1.5:1; (ii) applying shear to the slurry at a shear frequency of at least 1, 000, 000 s -1 ; (iii) adding the slurry emerging from step (ii) to a C 10 - C 24 saturated or unsaturated fatty acid or derivative thereof to effect a saponification reaction, the saponification reaction being carried out at a temperature of at least 80°C; (iv) removing water from the saponified product resulting from step (iii); and (v) heating the product emerging from step (iv) at a temperature in the range of from 190 to 230°C; and (vi) cooling the product emerging from step (v) to a temperature in the range of from 200 to 150°C to form a metal complex grease composition. The process of the present invention provides a reduction in the venting time required to evaporate the water, a reduction in overall batch time, a more energy efficient manufacturing process and an increase in productivity.

The TCM can be used as a viscosifier and for suspending solids in such applications as drilling muds, lubricating oils and greases. The TCM can be prepared by disproportionating carbon monoxide in the presence of iron contained in a blend of (1) previously formed TCM and (2) iron containing particles.

The invention provides a lubricant composition containing (A) an ionic Liquid having an anion represented by formula 1: (Rf1-SO 2 ) (Rf2-SO 2 ) N - or formula 2: (Rf3) (Rf3) (Rf3) PF 3 - wherein Rf1 and Rf2 in formula 1 may be the same or different and are each F, CF 3 , C 2 F 5 , C 3 F 7 or C 4 F 9 , and Rf3 in formula 2 may be the same or different and is CF 3 , C 2 F 5 , C 3 F 7 or C 4 F 9 ; and (B) a fatty acid amine salt in an amount of 0.1 to 5.0 mass%. The lubricant composition of the invention can favorably be used under a high vacuum or an ultra high vacuum, or under high temperatures, and exhibits excellent rust prevention properties.

The present invention discloses the use of nonmetallic, finely divided polymeric or natural fibers in anti-seize thread compound formulations for use on rotary shouldered, oilfield tubular good or tapered threaded connections. The addition of such fibers into formulas that do not contain metallic powders or flakes (typically utilized to provide the anti-galling properties) provides a measurable improvement in the galling and seize resistance properties. Therefore, the incorporation of such fibers provides a film strength improvement in environmentally responsible thread compound compositions, which previously would not provide the level of galling resistance to perform in severe applications such as oilfield directional or geothermal drilling.

In particular, the present invention relates to a method for synthesizing fluorosilicates and silicates comprising the cooking, at a temperature comprised between 600°C and 850°C, of a mixture of starting materials, said mixture comprising compounds of Ca, Na, Si, O and F, wherein the mixture of starting materials comprising compounds of Ca, Na, Si, O and F has the following ponderal composition, excluding loss by calcination: Ca (as CaO) 35%-55%, Na (as Na 2 O) 4%-25%, Si (as SiO 2 ) 15%-45%, F 4%-20%, and wherein the products of said method comprise cuspidine and/or dicalcium sodium fluorosilicate.
