The invention relates to a method of controlling an electric motor integrated in a thread winding device. The inventive method consists in: using a power supply device (2) to generate a voltage or current system in order to power an assembly of windings (6-8) which are mounted on the fixed or mobile part of the motor, in such a way as to generate variable focres which, when applied the mobile part of the motor, cause said mobile part to move; using a coder (11) to generate a piece of information that is representative of the position of the mobile part of the motor in relation to the fixed part. The invention is characterised in that the voltage or current system is determined directly from the piece of information which is representative of the position of the motor's mobile part, according to a function or values that are pre-defined from the parameters of the winding device, said values or functions being independent of temporal variations in said position information.

When applied to a spinning frame or the like, the motor controller of the present invention can prevent non-uniform winding and breakage of yarns at the time of power failure.
