A method for realizing embroidery simulation which can be used as an alternative sample to an actual object. A shade is added to a stitch not to brighten the center of the stitch and to darken the opposite ends thereof as shown at (a) but to brighten a stitch A close to a light source most and to darken a stitch B remote from the light source most as shown at (b). Assuming that the light source is not located on a two-dimensional plane where the stitch exists but a light beam enters obliquely from the upper space, variation of shade is also added in the widthwise direction of a yarn similarly to the longitudinal direction thereof in order to impart three-dimensional feeling thus attaining a simulation image having highly massive feeling.

Sewing lines for sewing pattern pieces combined to form a garment is determined automatically using placement information and a graph. The placement information indicates at least matching relationships between at least the subset of the pattern pieces and placement points of an avatar onto which the garment is draped. The graph includes nodes and segments. The nodes are located on outlines of the pattern pieces. Each of the segments indicating a directed connection between adj acent ones of the nodes. Matching edges of at least the subset of the pattern pieces is determined by the placement information as sewing lines for at least the subset of the pattern pieces using the graph.

A method of dynamically changing stitch density of a quilting pattern during sewing is provided. Embodiments of the invention include dynamically changing stitch density along an axis of a sewing pattern based on identifying sewing pattern elements, which may include line segments and arc segments. Each of the line segments and/or arc segments is assigned a dynamically adjusted stitch density based on analysis of each pattern element and/or adjacent element. An adjusted stitch density is assigned to portions of pattern elements that satisfy a threshold measurement for sewing with an adjusted stitch density. In embodiments, a standard stitch density, intermediate stitch density, or an altered stitch density is automatically assigned to each portion of a sewing pattern based on an analysis of threshold length of an element, a threshold angle of a portion of the element with respect to the axis, and/or the stitch density assigned to an adjacent element.

A sewing apparatus (10), includes a display input unit (80) including a display unit (81) configured to display an image of an input screen (G1), and an input detection unit (82) configured to detect an input operation on the input screen (G1); and a control apparatus (90) that performs display control of the display unit (81) in response to the input operation. The control apparatus (90) performs display control in which a background of the input screen (G1) is set to a dark color as a whole, a sewing pattern image displayed on the input screen (G1) is set to brightness higher than that of the background, and an operation unit (B11 to B53) that receives the input operation on the input screen (G1) is set to a color lighter than that of the background.
