The invention relates to an apparatus (1) and method for heating a liquid, such as water, flowing into and through said apparatus (1) from an associated liquid source. The apparatus comprises a burner unit (60) and a coil (5) arranged in an internal housing (30), said internal housing (30) arranged inside an external housing (40) dimensioned so as to form a liquid reservoir (50) in between said two housings (30, 40) and wherein said burner unit (60) is arranged so as to direct a flame towards said coil (5). The liquid flows into the apparatus through a liquid inlet into said liquid reservoir (50) and from said liquid reservoir (50) through the coil (5) from a coil inlet to a coil outlet, and wherein the coil (5) and internal housing (30) are arranged so as to direct the flame from the burner unit (60) through a tortuous path ensuring a high energy transfer from said flame to said liquid. This design is advantageous for integration of the apparatus into a compact device, since the cool water surrounds the hot internal part of the apparatus. Thus, the external surface of the apparatus is cool enough to allow sensitive components to be placed close to the external housing (40), and at the same time, the apparatus provide a high energy efficiency.

Diese Art der Aufheizung des Wärmeträgers hat sich als nicht sehr energieeffizient herausgestellt. Die Erfindung sieht es vor, den Wärmeträger im Wärmetauscher (20) durch Infrarotstrahlung aufzuheizen. Dazu ist ein Heizrohr (27) mit einem äußeren Glühstrumpf (32) vorgesehen, wobei die Flammen des Brenners (21) das Heizrohr (27) von innen erhitzen und dabei den Glühstrumpf (32) zum Glühen bringen. Der Glühstrumpf (32) gibt dadurch Infrarotstrahlen ab, die den Wärmetauscher und den darin zirkulierenden Wärmeträger aufheizen.

The present invention relates to a heat exchanger that can enhance thennal efficiency by enabling combustion heat of combustion gas generated by the combustion of a burner to be maximally returned to a heating medium, the heat exchanger being provided with a heat exchange unit having heating medium flow channels through which a heating medium flows and combustion gas flow channels through which combustion gas combusted in the burner flows to be alternately formed and adjacent to each other in spaces between a plurality of plates, wherein the heat exchange unit comprises: a sensible heat unit which surrounds the outer side of a combustion chamber, is formed of one side area of the plates, and heats the heating medium by using sensible heat of combustion gas generated by the combustion of the burner; and a latent heat unit which is formed of the other side area of the plates, and heats the heating medium by using latent heat of water vapor included in combustion gas that has finished undergoing heat exchange in the sensible heat unit, wherein a flow channel cap is coupled to the rear of the sensible heat unit so as to provide a flow channel for combustion gas in order to enable combustion gas that passed through the combustion gas flow channels formed on the upper part of the sensible heat unit to enter into the combustion gas flow channels of the latent heat unit.
