The process comprises applying ultrasonic waves to raw materials in the course of charging the raw materials into a reaction vessel or to a raw material mixture comprising addition polymerizable monomer(s), coloring agent(s), and water as indispensable components in a reaction vessel at an application amount of from 0.05 to 50 W/ℓ/hr. per unit treating volume and time using an ultrasonic homogenizer having frequencies of from 10 kHz to 50 kHz, followed by subjecting the raw material mixture to suspension polymerization.

There is disclosed here a method of transferring an assembly of overlaid color toner images from a primary electrostatic imaging surface (e.g., a photoconductor) to a receptor sheet by embedding and encapsulating the toner particles in a transparent binder. The transfer is accomplished in one step with no loss in image quality, either in color or in resolution, and presents a glossy final result. The final encapsulated image is also protected from abrasion and contamination.

A toner for electrophotographs which is prepared by mixing thermoplastic resin core particles (A) having an average size of from 1 to 15µ with a colorant (B) and without or together with at least one of additives in a finely particulate form while applying mechanical strain force to the whole under such conditions that the average size of the resulting toner particles is in the range of 1-20µm whereby the colorant (B) and the other necessary fine particles are embedded substantially as primary particles in the resin core particles (A). A process for production of the toner is also disclosed.

A triboelectrically chargeable composition for use in development of electrostatic latent images. The composition comprises a positively chargeable compound and a base material carrying the positively chargeable compound. The positively chargeable compound has an oxidation potential of 750 mV or below, a whiteness W of 0.5 or above and an average particle size of 5.0 microns or smaller. The composition is embodied typically as a positively chargeable toner and also as a charge-imparting material for charging a toner. The positively chargeable toner is especially adapted for development of digital latent images, e.g., as produced by laser beam scanning.

The developer mixtures comprise toner particles substantially all of which are of a size between a lower size limit of 3 microns and an upper size limit of between 8 and 15 microns. The carrier particles have a mean size which is not less than the upper size limit of the toner particles and not greater than 65 microns. Imaging processes employing the developer mixtures are also disclosed.

Because of the diorganotin borate contained, the toner has a uniform and stable triboelectric chargeability. The improved properties of the toner are enhanced when it is combined with positively chargeable fine silica powder.

Spherical particles having sizes from 0.05 µm to 3.04 µm, and having a narrow size distribution, consist essentially of TiO 2 coated with a uniform layer having a thickness up to 400 A consisting essentially of a- or γ-Fe 2 O 3 , magnetite or mixtures thereof. Such particles may be prepared by a process comprising precipitating the iron oxide from a Fe (III) salt solution on the surface of solid preformed TiO 2 particles, the Fe (III) concentration being less than or equal to 40% by weight calculated on the basis of TiO 2 , the pH of the suspension being from 1.0 to 2.8, extremes excluded, and by heating the suspension to a temperature of from 80 to 100°C and by aging the suspension under such conditions during at least 30 minutes.
