Titanium is very excellent as the material of a conduit for use in liquid helium sealing of a high magnetic field superconducting coil, because it is reduced in the deterioration of the characteristics of a superconducting wire in virtue of the thermal shrinkage rate thereof close to that of Nb₃Sn as a superconducting wire and also is excellent in the balance between the strength and the toughness at a liquid helium temperature. The invention provides a titanium material for superconducting coil conductor conduits which comprises 0.07-0.13 % (by mass, the same applies hereinbelow) of oxygen, 0.10 % or less of iron, 0.10 % or less of carbon and nitrogen in total, 0.005 % or less of hydrogen and the balance composed of titanium and unavoidable impurities and which satisfies the mechanical properties and fracture toughness required of a conduit material both as a base metal and a weld, by appropriately controlling the oxygen content of a pure titanium material, which content greatly affects the strength and toughness, and the content of other impurities.

An electric cable for shielding the conductor therein from tensile stresses during bending of the conductor in a predetermined lateral direction. An elongated duct having a pair of opposed sidewalls and a floor therebetween holds the conductive element, while an elongated lid of relatively substantial thickness is mounted in the opening to the duct between the free ends of the sidewalls. The lid fills the duct from the opening between the free ends of the sidewalls to the neutral surface produced by lateral bending of the cable in the direction of the floor of the duct. Bonding material secures the lid and duct in a fixed longitudinal relationship, and a suitable flowable filler encases the conductor in the resulting tubular housing. The cable disclosed has particular application to the preservation of the integrity of superconductor materials used as the conductor in the cable. Preferably, the duct and lid are made of soft and hard copper, respectively.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Fixieren der Windungen einer supraleitenden Magnetwicklung, die zunächst aus Leitervorprodukten aufgebaut wird und bei der die supraleitenden Eigenschaften durch eine Reaktionsglühung (in-situ-Glühung) der fertigen Wicklung erzeugt werden. Bisher wurden zum Fixieren der Windungen Isolationsmaterialien verwendet, deren organische Anteile zur Vermeidung kohlenstoffhaltiger Rückstände vor der Reaktionsglühung vollständig aus der Magnetwicklung entfernt werden mußten. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren sieht dagegen vor, daß beim Wickeln der Leitervorprodukte ein Kitt aus isolierendem anorganischem Material in die Wicklung eingebracht und nach Fertigstellung der Wicklung vor Durchführung der Reaktionsglühung verfestigt wird. Dieser Kitt muß im verfestigten Zustand sowohl bei der Betriebstemperatur des Supraleitermaterials als auch bei der zur Reaktionsglühung erforderlichen hohen Temperatur beständig sein. Als besonders geeignet hat sich ein Kitt aus Wasserglas und Talcum erwiesen.
