Abstract:
An elongated microwave powered lamp (1) having one or more bulbs with any length or shape or disposition according to a linear series, straight or curved, includes: at least one transparent elongated bulb (2) containing, in an inner space thereof, a material apt to be excited by microwave irradiation thereby emitting an electromagnetic radiation; a coaxial microwave antenna placed outside the bulb (2) and respectively connected to a microwave source (81) via corresponding antenna lead (91), said bulb (2) and said at least one microwave coaxial antenna being displaced in a close relationship to each other to allow the microwave excitation of said material, wherein the outer tubular conductor of the coaxial antenna (5) has spaced holes (6) formed therethrough and facing the bulb (2), at which microwaves are released toward the bulb.
Abstract:
An elongate tube formed from a composite material comprising a polymer and a photoluminescent material has a cylindrical wall that defines an arc of between about 180 degrees and 360 degrees or greater. An elongate opening is defined in the wall along the length of the tube. The wall of the tube is flexible which permits the opening to be manually enlarged to enable the tube to be mounted over an electric light source. The wall is configured to approximate the outer dimensions of the light source which retains the tube on the light source. The photoluminescent material in the tube wall is energized by the light source and emits sufficient light for a period of time if the electricity to the light source is temporarily interrupted.
Abstract:
A discharge lamp having a large light output and a stable discharge. On an external surface of a cylindrical glass bulb enclosing a rare gas such as xenon, a pair of beltlike electrodes are mounted so as to face each other. A light output part is provided between the electrodes, and the electrodes are situated close to each other on the opposite side to the light output part. An image display device is constituted by arranging a plurality of the discharge lamps. A method for producing the discharge lamps is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A tri-color lamp for use as an element in the optical presentation of information. The lamp includes a sealed envelope having a common envelope member and a plurality (e.g., three) of longitudinally extending leg members. A common electrode is located within the common envelope member and is spacedly located from opposing electrodes located within each of the leg members. A phosphor layer within the sealed envelope subtends at least the major body portion of each of the leg members such that the surface brightness of the phosphor layer as viewed through the end portions of the lamp is greater than the intensity of the external surface brightness of the phosphor layer on the major body portion. In the presentation of color information, each of the leg members is coated with respective phosphors emitting the primary colors red, green and blue.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for producing UV light. Said device provides light from light sources that operate in accordance with different physical principles. The device comprises a chamber having several gas-filled plasma chambers (11, 12), wherein the chamber has at least one area (37, 39) transparent to UV light and/or VUV light. A first group (11) of plasma chambers is filled with an ionizable gas containing mercury and a second group (12) of plasma chambers is filled with a gas that forms excimers when suitably excited.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a low-pressure mercury discharge lamp comprising
a first lamp vessel (La1) provided with a first electrode (E11), with a filling comprising mercury and rare gas, and with a first luminescent layer which radiates white light of a first colour temperature during lamp operation, a second lamp vessel (La2) provided with a second electrode (E12), with a filling comprising mercury and rare gas, and with a second luminescent layer which radiates white light of a second colour temperature different from the first during lamp operation, means I for generating a first current through the first lamp vessel and a second current through the second lamp vessel, means II for adjusting the ratio between the effective value of the first current and the effective value of the second current.
According to the invention, the low-pressure mercury discharge lamp is characterized in that the first and the second lamp vessel are interconnected by means of a connection (V) which allows the filling to pass and together enclose a discharge space, in that the first current and the second current are high-frequency currents of changing polarity, and in that the discharge space contains only one further electrode (E13). It is achieved thereby that the colour temperature of the light radiated by the lamp can be adjusted over a comparatively wide range, while the lamp is of a simple construction and has a comparatively high luminous efficacy.
