In some embodiments, a gas discharge tube (GDT) device can include a first insulator substrate having first and second sides and defining an opening. The GDT device can further include second and third insulator substrates mounted to the first and second sides of the first insulator substrate with first and second seals, respectively, such that inward facing surfaces of the second and third insulator substrates and the opening of the first insulator substrate define a chamber. The GDT device can further include first and second electrodes implemented on the respective inward facing surfaces of the second and third insulator substrates, and first and second terminals implemented on at least one external surface of the GDT device. The GDT device can further include electrical connections implemented between the first and second electrodes and the first and second terminals, respectively.

An ignition strip (50) is applied to an inner surface (S10a) of the insulator facing the hollow chamber (20). An outer metallization (61, 62, 63) is arranged on an outer surface (S10b) of the insulator (10). An effective reduction of the protection level can thus be achieved in said over-voltage arrester.

Based on the configuration of the present invention, an ESD protection device is provided which has a low electrostatic capacitance, a low short-circuiting rate and an excellent durability. Also, in the ESD protection device, the damage derived from short-circuiting or the peak voltage can be inhibited. The ESD protection device comprises an insulating substrate, electrodes separately and oppositely disposed on the insulating substrate and a discharge inducing section arranged between the electrodes. The discharge inducing section consists of porous structure with microscopic voids discontinuously dispersed therein and has a hollow structure in which at least one hollow space is contained. Further, the plane where the hollow structure is formed has a dense structure.

An ESD protection device whose ESD characteristics are easily adjusted and stabilized is provided. An ESD protection device 10 includes (a) a ceramic multilayer substrate 12, (b) at least a pair of discharge electrodes 16 and 18 formed in the ceramic multilayer substrate 12 and facing each other with a space 15 disposed therebetween, and (c) external electrodes formed on a surface of the ceramic multilayer substrate 12 and connected to the discharge electrodes 16 and 18. The ESD protection device 10 includes a supporting electrode 14 disposed in a region that connects the pair of discharge electrodes 16 and 18. The supporting electrode 14 is obtained by dispersing a conductive material 34 coated with an inorganic material having no conductivity.
