The front caster is coupled to the pivot arm. Movement of the drive assembly mounting bracket with respect to the frame in a first direction causes the pivot arm to remain in substantially a first position, and movement of the drive assembly mounting bracket with respect to the frame in a second direction urges the pivot arm away from the first position.

    摘要: An independent suspension system (1) has a pair of control arms (4, 5)having inner ends (28, 30) which are attached to a vehicle body and outer ends (29, 31) which support a wheel hub (2) therebetween. A ball joint (6, 7) interconnects each control arm (4, 5) with the wheel hub (2). Each ball joint (6, 7) has a ball pin (20) rotatably mounted in an associated housing (10). A first threaded shank (15) on the ball pin (20) is bolted to one of the control arm (4, 5) and the wheel hub (2). A second threaded shank (11) on the housing (10) is bolted to the other of the control arm (4, 5) and the wheel hub (2). Thus each ball joint (6, 7) is a separate unit which is demountable from the control arm (4, 5) and wheel hub (2) and can be installed without dismantling the ball joint (6, 7). Conveniently also a threaded shank of the ball joint (6, 7) may screw into a complementary threaded socket in a control arm (4) to allow adjustment of the effective length of the control arm (4).

    摘要: The invention relates to a support device (3, 6, 7) which is intended to connect a wheel (2) to the suspension elements (4, 8, 9) of a vehicle. According to the invention, the wheel (2) of radius R is intended to rest on the ground (S) and the support device comprises wishbones (6, 7). The lower parts of said wishbones are articulated with the suspension elements (4, 8, 9) while the upper parts thereof are articulated with the wheel carrier (3), thereby providing the wheel with a degree of camber freedom in relation to the suspension elements (4, 8, 9), the camber movement being performed around an instantaneous centre of rotation (CIR r/s). The inventive device is characterised in that it is configured such that Y and Z are the abscissa and the ordinate respectively of the instantaneous position of the aforementioned instantaneous centre of rotation in the camber plane. In this way, during camber displacement of between 0° and -1°, said instantaneous position verifies simultaneously the following conditions:Y ≤ 0.125*R; Z ≤ -0.0625*R; and Z ≤ 0.66225*Y + 0.02028*R.

    摘要: The present invention provides a suspension link assembly (28) for use in interconnecting a suspension member (12) to frame structure (18) in a motor vehicle, and which finds particular application in rear independent suspension systems. The suspension link assembly (28) includes an elongated extension rail (30) and a tie rod assembly (32). The extension rail (30) is a stamped component defining a generally U-shaped cross section. The extension rail (30) has a first end adapted to be pivotably connected to the frame structure (18) and a second end defining an open-ended socket (44). The tie rod assembly (32) includes a housing (48) defining an annular cavity (72) and a shank (46), and ball joint (50) retained in the housing cavity (72) and adapted for pivotable connection to the suspension member. The shank (46) of the tie rod housing (48) is slidably inserted into the socket (44) of the extension rail (30). Once the desired length of the suspension link assembly (28) is determined, the shank (46) is rigidly secured in the socket (44), such as by a welding operation.
