The brake system for a rail vehicle comprises a pneumatic or hydraulic pressure medium source and a brake actuator for converting an input pressure into a brake force which is exerted on at least one wheel. Also provided is a brake force transducer which, during the exertion of the braking force, is subjected to the corresponding tangential force. According to the invention, the brake force transducer generates, as a result of the action of said tangential force, a control force, a control travel or a pneumatic or hydraulic control pressure. Into the working line between the pressure medium source and the brake actuator there is connected a regulating valve which is additionally acted on by the control force or the control pressure. The regulating valve changes the exertion of pressure on the brake actuator such that the control force or the control pressure is kept below a set limit value. The limit value corresponds to full utilization of the adhesion limit at the wheel contact point. It has been identified that, in this way, most uncertainties in the transfer function between the pressure in the brake actuator and the exerted brake force can be eliminated, such that it can be ensured that the adhesion limit is not exceeded. In particular, no fluctuations in the efficiency of the brake actuator have to be taken into consideration.

Said device comprises a movably guided coupling member (13) for pressing a brake lining (14) against a braking surface (15) and a brake actuator (8), filled with hydraulic liquid and connected to the coupling member (13), for generating a pressure force that can be passed into the brake lining (14) via the coupling member (13). The brake lining (14) is connected to a pressure transducer (18) that can be fastened on a frame of the mass to be decelerated via connecting means (16). The pressure transducer has a hydraulic liquid-filled supporting cylinder (19) and a supporting piston (17) interacting therewith, said supporting cylinder (19) communicating with the brake cylinder (9) via hydraulic lines. The aim of the invention is to allow an improved adjustment of the deceleration. For this purpose, control means (42) adjust the brake force depending on a predetermined theoretical value.

The invention relates to a method for controlling the braking force of a motor vehicle comprising determining actual values of control parameters and set points of control parameters, comparing the actual values with the set points to produce comparison results, affecting the forces applied at the wheels on the basis of the comparison results. Said method is characterised in that the control parameters are forces applied at the wheels, the actual values of said forces are determined by a sensor system (10) for measuring forces at the wheels, torques are generated at the wheels with a modulation frequency, whereby slip of the wheels (20) and forces at the wheels (20) can be modified, slip of the wheels (20) and forces at the wheels (20) are estimated and set points of the forces at the wheels (20) are determined. The invention further relates to a system for controlling the braking force of a motor vehicle.
