A method for producing MMA-d8 which comprises a step of exchanging D in the hydroxyl group of methanol-d4 represented by the formula: CD3OD with H to prepare the methanol-d3 represented by the formula: CD3OH and simultaneously recovering a deuterium-containing compound, and a step of reacting the methanol-d3 with a sulfuric acid salt of methacrylic acid amide represented by the formula CD2=C(CD3)CONH2·H2SO4, to prepare MMA-d8 represented by the formula: CD2=C(CD3)COOCD3. The above method can be employed for producing MMA-d8 with good efficiency while circulating expensive deuterium atoms being by-produced in an above reaction process .

Provided herein are improved methods for producing methacrylic acid and methacrylate esters using combined or "integrated" processing steps including integrated hydrolysis, integrated cracking systems, and combinations thereof. In one embodiment, other aspects of an methacrylic acid and methacrylate ester production trains are integrated. Also provided are methods to purify crude methacrylic acid streams to form glacial methacrylic acid that is at least 95% pure.
