The present invention relates to an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) material comprising a copolymer of vinylamine-vinylformamide, and a homo-polymer or a copolymer of at least one monomer selected from acrylamide or derivatives thereof, acrylic acid or derivatives thereof, or a mixture thereof forming the IPN material together with the copolymer of vinylamine-vinyl-formamide. The present invention further relates to a process for producing the IPN material, and to use of the IPN material in paper industry.

The invention relates to a method for producing paper, paperboard and cardboard in the presence of an aqueous suspension of components containing fine-particles of filler material. The fine-particle filler materials are covered at least partially with water-soluble amphoteric copolymers. Said method consists in adding to the fibre suspension, prior to the formation of the sheet, and in addition to the aqueous suspension of components containing fine-particles filler material, at least one cationic and/or amphoteric polymer which, as a structural element, does not contain any ester unsaturated carboxylic acids with quaternised amino alcohols.

These polymeric compounds are prepared either by grafting boronic acid containing compounds (e.g. 4-carboxyphenylboronic acid) to hydrolysed poly(N-vinylformamide) or hydrolysing copolymer(s) obtained by copolymerizing vinyl group containing boronic acid monomers (e.g. -vinylphenyl boronic acid) and N-vinylformamide. The invention relates to a method for producing polymers that are predominantly formed from vinyl formamide and that contain a small amount of residual vinyl formamide monomers. Said method comprises the radical polymerisation of: (a) 49.9 - 99.9 wt. % N-vinyl formamide; (b) 0 - 50 wt. % of one or more radically polymerisable monomers; (c) 0.1 - 5 wt. % of at least one monomer from the group containing N-vinyl pyrrolidone, N-vinyl-N-methyl-acetamide, N-vinyl caprolactam and N-vinyl piperidone, whereby the monomer (c) is only added for the polymerisation when the fraction of monomer (a) that has not yet been polymerised is
