Floating hose (1) is normally comprised of a carcass (2) that is covered with a layer of foam (4) to provide buoyancy. The foam (4) can be deformed and compressed by being repeatedly reeled onto a drum under conditions of high axial forces (reeling forces plus hose weight). The propensity for the foam layer (4) to become compressed is aggravated in typical conditions where the hose is stored on a reel for extended periods and is on the reel more than it is in the water. In any case, compression damage causes the hose (1) to lose buoyancy which can ultimately result in the hose sinking under conditions of normal use. It would accordingly be desirable to develop a floating hose (1) that minimized the permanent damage caused by the foam layer (4) being compressed to high levels over and over again. The floating hose (1) of this invention is resistant to damage that can be caused by axial forces, such as those encountered while being collected on a reel. More specifically, the floating hose (1) of this invention is not as susceptible to being damaged by compression as conventional floating hoses. This is by virtue of the floating hoses (1) of this invention including anti-compression collars (3) that protect the floatation medium (4) therein from damage that can occur during routine usage. This extends the service life of the floating hoses (1) of this invention and reduces their propensity to lose buoyancy over time. The present invention more specifically discloses a floating hose comprising: a carcass (2) having an inside and an outside; a plurality of anti-compression collars (3) interspaced around the carcass; a floatation medium (4) surrounding said hose carcass (2) and said anti-compression collars (3), and an outer cover, wherein said outer cover covers (5) said floating medium (4) and said anti-compression collars (3).

A moulded plastics article 1 comprises a hollow body with a lower portion 2 and an upper portion 3. In a desired in-use orientation of the article, the lower portion 2 of the body is lowermost and the upper portion 3 is uppermost. The article has an integrally moulded ballast which in this case is in the form of a number of inwardly projecting ribs 10 which extend generally radially from the wall of the lower portion of the hollow body. The ribs 10 are of different lengths, the longer ribs being provided at the lowest section of the body and the radial extent of the ribs decreasing upwardly. The thickness of the outer wall of the hollow body and the thickness of the ribs 10 is substantially the same. Thus the article has substantially uniform wall thickness.

Provided is a marine hose including a release layer that can reliably separate an inner reinforcing layer group from an outer reinforcing layer group to form a gap when an inner surface rubber layer and the inner reinforcing layer group are damaged and has excellent formability. An inner reinforcing layer group (4, 5), a release layer (6), and an outer reinforcing layer group (7) are layered in order from an inner circumferential side between an inner surface rubber layer (3) and a cover layer (9). The release layer (6) is composed mainly of PVA and the water dissolution temperature is set to 50°C or higher. When the inner surface rubber layer (3) and the inner reinforcing layer group (4, 5) are damaged, the release layer (6) is separated from the inner reinforcing layer group (4, 5) to form a gap (g) therebetween. A fluid (L) leaking from a flow path (1a) on an inner side of the inner surface rubber layer (3) flows through the gap (g) and a communication pipe (10a) and reaches a leak detector (10) disposed on a hose surface.
