The method of the present invention comprises: a called side gateway detecting a characteristic tone used for indicating data transmission (S11); and the called side gateway and a calling side gateway executing a corresponding operation of switching on or off their own echo canceller according to the characteristic tone (S12). In the present invention, the calling side gateway or the called side gateway executes the operation of controlling echo canceller according to the characteristic tone, which can effectively control echo canceller. Regardless of the characteristic tone in the manner of loss coding or lossless coding, which is transmitted between the calling side gateway and the called side gateway, the calling side gateway can always control echo canceller.

    摘要: Provided is an echo removal device which has a simple configuration and can appropriately remove an echo even if an emitted sound volume becomes large. A control unit (17) performs switching between operations of an echo suppresser (14) and an echo canceller (15) according to a volume value inputted from a sound volume operation unit (18). When the volume value is large, the echo suppresser (14) is operated so as to surely suppress the echo. When the volume value is small, the echo canceller (15) is operated to enable double talk.

The communications network comprises echo control devices (ECD) that can be requested if required and that can be inserted on the basis of predetermined criteria during the established connections in order to suppress the echo signals arising therein. In the corresponding switching nodes (DVK; NK/DVK) to which the automatic machines (AS) are connected, a comparison is made between the signal propagation time vlz of the connection from the terminal (EG) to the automatic machine (AS) and the value of the echo propagation time compensation elk of an echo control device optionally available in the automatic machine (AS) or an echo control device assigned to the automatic machine (AS) after a connection has been established between the terminal (EG) and the automatic machine (AS). When vlz > 1/2 elk, an echo control logic provided in the switching nodes (DVK; NK/DVK) enables the transmission of a signal (ECRB) to the communications network in order to request an echo control device (ECD) available in the network which is then inserted in the connection between the terminal (EG) and the automatic machine (AS).
