The polymer composition is formed to have different densities in a direction between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 38. At least in a region overlapping with the pair of transparent electrodes 34, the polymer composition has a part 50 having the highest density, the part being located closer to the first substrate 10 than to the second substrate 38.

The color liquid crystal thin film is manufactured by using a blue phase liquid crystal with high polymer stabilization, the liquid crystal is rotated via an electric field to realize display of different colors, and the liquid crystal is fixed by being irradiated with ultraviolet. Since the liquid crystal is rotated via the electric field, the manufacturing efficiency of the color liquid crystal thin film is improved, and in addition, it is also easy to control colors shown by the color liquid crystal thin film. The color liquid crystal thin film relatively rich in color types can be manufactured by applying electric fields of different strength.
