PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality in a recording image in an image recording apparatus, by easily pulling out a tray, by preventing double feeding of a sheet, in a sheet feed device. SOLUTION: Torque of a paper feeding motor 70 is transmitted to a first driving shaft 146. A first arm 142 of a first paper feeding unit 140 is rotatably supported by the first driving shaft 146. A transmission gear supported by the first arm 142 receives the torque from the first driving shaft 146. The first driving shaft 146 is composed of divided shafts 146A and 146B, and these respective shafts 146A and 146B are connected by shaft couplings 149 and 154 for constituting an idle rotation mechanism. When the torque is transmitted to the divided shaft 146A, the divided shaft 146A idly rotates by a predetermined quantity by the shaft couplings 149 and 154, and afterwards, the torque is transmitted to the divided shaft 146B. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce works for supplying sheet bundles by continuously performing a sheet feeding operation till using up sheets in each sheet feeding tray. SOLUTION: A table associating a sheet size with the sheet feeding tray is referred to according to the sheet size instructed by a user, and sheet feeding from the selected tray is performed (S102). Before finishing printing in execution, sheets stored in the tray which is feeding sheets are used up in a stopped state of the sheet feeding (S104-YES). If there are a plurality of other trays storing the same sheets (S105-YES), the tray to be used for the next time is determined from the trays according to a prescribed rule. To change the determined tray, table data of a sheet-tray table (Fig.2) are rewritten (S106). S102 to S106 are operations for using up sheets in the trays, and the operations are managed by a sheet size-tray table.
