PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimally adjust the combustion of an internal combustion engine according to a working state. SOLUTION: Fuel injecting valves 10a to 10d are provided in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine 1, which carry out main fuel injection and auxiliary fuel injection before the main fuel injection. An electronic control unit (ECU) 30 sets up auxiliary fuel injection timing so as to make a delay in ignition of fuel of the auxiliary injection amount in practically working equal to a delay in ignition in an engine normal working state, and sets up the maximum fuel amount in a range where combustion can be finished between the auxiliary injection timing and main injection timing as the auxiliary injection amount. Therefore, the fuel of the auxiliary injection is completely burned by a start of the main injection, so that a combustion state of the fuel of the main injection is improved, and the generation of exhaust white fumes and the like is prevented.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an abnormality with expedition in a power steering gear employed to generate steering assist force inside a vehicular steering gear having a transmission ratio varying means to vary the transmission ratio of the steering transmission system, and change over the steering gear to its manual steering mode. SOLUTION: In dependence upon a transmission ratio set by a transmission ratio setting circuit 40 in accordance with an input signal from a vehicle speed sensor 32 and upon an output from a steering angle sensor 26, a target steering- angle arithmetic circuit 42 sets a target steering angle. If an abnormality detecting circuit 46 decides that the deviation of an actual steering angle detected by an output angle sensor 28 from the target steering angle equals or exceeds a preset value or that an abnormality is caused in a power steering gear for generating steering assist force, this abnormality detecting circuit 46 directs a driving circuit 38 not to output a control signal to a gear ratio varying unit 14 to cancel the transmission ratio varying control.

PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a play so as to prevent generation of abrasion and abnormal noise in a connecting portion due to a play by achieving a stable tightened state at three points in a connecting structure for connecting an inner and an outer spline to each other. CONSTITUTION:The relationship between a thickness of a spline tooth of an inner spline portion and a thickness of a spline tooth of an outer spline portion is determined as follows: The thickness of a spline tooth in an arcuate portion extending on both sides in the circumferential direction by a predetermined length is formed into a large tooth thickness 21d, a middle tooth thickness 21e and a small tooth thickness 21f. Clearances between the teeth in the engaged portion of the splines before connection of the splines exist in portions of the small and middle tooth thicknesses 21f, 21e, where the clearance in the portion of the small tooth thickness 21f is larger than that in the portion of the middle tooth thickness 21e, while are made almost zero in the portion of the large tooth thickness 21d. Furthermore, a clearance between the tooth surfaces before and after the tooth thickness of each spline of the small and middle tooth thicknesses 21f, 21e becomes approximately equal to each other.

PURPOSE:To keep the ratio of angular velocity constant within a prescribed angular range by continuing smoothly a pitch curve in a constant speed part having constant radius and a pitch curve in a non-constant speed part represented as an equation of ellipse in a polar coordinate with the rotational center as its pole so that a pitch circle can be formed. CONSTITUTION:In one gear 1 of a pair of gears 1 and 2, with regard to the rotational center O1, a range at an angle theta1 becomes a constant speed part 1a, and the other range becomes a non-constant speed part 1b. In the gear 2, with regard to the rotational center O2, a range at an angle theta2 becomes a constant speed part 2a, and the other range becomes a non-constant speed part 2b. In the gears 1 and 2, fellow constant speed parts or fellow non-constant speed parts are engaged respectively with fellow speed parts, and under a condition that the non-constant speed parts are engaged with each other, the ratio of angular velocity changes consecutively, and when the fellow constant speed parts are engaged with each other, the ratio of angular velocity becomes the ratio of angular velocity corresponding to the ratio of radius. Thereby, the ratio of angular velocity can be kept constant within a prescribed angular range so that the gears can be changed smoothly.
