Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism oil including polyunsaturated fatty acid and a method for recovering the same. SOLUTION: The method, which recovers (1) microorganism oil including polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) which has a high triglyceride content and high oxidation stability and (2) the microorganism oil from microorganism biomass induced from low-temperature fermentation broth, includes: a process of subjecting the biomass to an extrusion treatment to form granule-like particles; a process of drying the particles; and, after that, a process of extracting the microorganism oil from the dried particles with a suitable solvent. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the isolation of a desired compound from a microbial biomass.SOLUTION: The process for the isolation of desired compound(s) from a microbial biomass is diclosed, wherein the microbial biomass (which, if necessary, is pretreated to give a dry matter content of from 25 to 80%) is granulated (e.g. by extrusion etc.) and then dried to a dry matter content of at least 80%. The granulation of the biomass to granules significantly eases subsequent drying of the biomass (which can be stored as dried granules) and gives higher yields on extraction of the compound(s).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for isolating target compounds from microbial biomass.SOLUTION: A method for isolating target compounds from microbial biomass is disclosed. In this method, the microbial biomass (which, if necessary, is pretreated to give a dry matter content of from 25 to 80%) is granulated (for example by extrusion) and then dried to a dry matter content of at least 80%. The granulation of the biomass to granules considerably facilitates subsequent drying of the biomass (which can be stored as dried granules) and gives higher yields on extraction of the compounds.
