PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional oxide which can be used as various functional materials such as ion superconductors, catalysts, etc. and can be easily manufactured and handled; and a method for manufacturing a functional oxide capable of easily manufacturing this functional oxide.SOLUTION: A functional oxide 10 includes: a metal oxide 11 having a perovskite-type crystal structure; and FePt nanoparticles 12 dispersed within the metal oxide 11. The metal oxide 11 is stable within a reducing atmosphere and is capable of solid-solubilizing Fe and Pt within an oxidative atmosphere.
