    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a wear resistant member having superior wear resistance of the prescribed parts by alloying the surfaces of the prescribed parts of a Ti alloy member with Al to form wear resistant layers contg. a Ti-Al intermetallic compd. and having a specified concn. of Al. CONSTITUTION:The base material 1 of a valve body is made of a Ti alloy such as Ti-6Al-4V and the surfaces of the parts of the base material 1 requiring wear resistance, e.g., the valve face part 2 and the shaft end part 3 are alloyed with Al. This alloying can be carried out by uniformly spreading pure Al powder on the prescribed parts and irradiating the surfaces of the resulting Al powder layers with laser light to simultaneously melt the Al powder layers and the surface of the base material under the layers. Wear resistant layers contg. a Ti-Al intermetallic compd. are formed and a Ti alloy base material 1 having superior wear resistance is obtd. The concn. of al in the wear resistant layers is regulated to 15-60wt.%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled piston which has no possibility of having cracks in the part where the resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue is required in the piston head part of said piston by partially reinforcing the sur face layer of said part to specific structure. CONSTITUTION:The part where the temp. is made highest by the direct receipt of fuel injection and particularly the resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue is required in the head part 2 of the piston 1, for example, a hot spot part 4, is partially reinforced. More specifically, a fine graphite dispersed layer which consists of a ferrite phase as the matrix and in which finely lumped graphite of =0.2mm depth from the surface.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily produce a sliding member having excellent wear resistance by subjecting a rough shape material molded of hypereutectic Si-Al alloy powder to a thorough degassing treatment then to hot working and irradiating high density energy to the sliding surface thereof to remelt the surface, then subjecting the molten surface to controlled cooling. CONSTITUTION:The hypereutectic Si-Al alloy powder is preliminarily molded to obtain the rough shape material having a bar, rectangular or other shapes. The above-mentioned rough shape material is subjected to the thorough degassing treatment then to hot working to form the sliding member having the prescribed shape. The high density energy such as TIG arc or laser is irradiated to at least the sliding surface of the resulted sliding member to remelt the surface and the molten surface is cooled at a temp. decreasing rate of 0.1-7.0 deg.C/sec. The sliding surface consisting of the primary crystal silicon having 25-100Xm grain size is thereby formed on the above-mentioned sliding surface down to the depth of >=0.1mm from the surface. The sliding member made of Al powder metallurgy having the high strength, high toughness and high heat resistance and improved wear resistance is thus obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a cylinder head at a low cost while the effect of prevention of cracks is sustained, by forming a fine graphite cast iron layer between valves and between the valves and a chambers. CONSTITUTION:In a roughly formed material of a cylinder head for a Diesel- engine, which is cast by a sand-mold process with the use of a molten material which is obtained by adding cerium as a deoxidizing agent in usual cast iron, inter valve sections between intake valves and exhaust valves and, and inter valve-chamber sections between the intake and exhaust valves and a chamber are subjected to a remelting and chilling process with the use of a TIG torch 8, and as a result, a remelted and chilled layer 9 is formed. Then, a high frequency heating coil 11 is disposed in the vicinity of the outer surface of the inter valve section, etc., to heat the latter before cooling. As a result, a fine graphite cast iron layer 12 which is the base material of the remelted and chilled layer 9 turned into ferrite, is obtained. Then, the cylinder head material is machine for finishing, thereby it is possible to obtain a cylinder head as a final product.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an Al alloy member having excellent wear resistance by forming the composite phase consisting of an Ni-Al intermetallic compd. phase and hard carbide phase on the surface of an Al alloy base material in a desired part and specifying the concns. of the Ni and hard carbide layer in the composite phase. CONSTITUTION:The mixture composed of 1 or >=2 kinds of the hard carbides selected from TiC, WC, VC, ZrC, NbC and TaC and Ni is thermally sprayed onto the surface of the Al alloy base material in the position where the wear resistance is required to coat said surface. High-density energy such as TIG arc is then irradiated to said surface to heat quickly the surface for a short period and to melt and alloy part of the Ni+hard carbide coating layer and the Al alloy base material on the underside thereof by which the composite phase consisting of the Ni-Al intermetallic compd. phase and the hard carbide phase is crystallized in the Al alloy matrix. The conditions for irradiating the high-density energy are adequately set so that the average concn. of Ni in the composite phase attains 10-20wt% and the average concn. of the hard carbide phase attains 0.5-30wt%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of the surfaces of cast iron parts by formic acid by forming Fe-Ni-Cr solid soln. layers on the surfaces of the cast iron parts by the alloying of Ni and Cr. CONSTITUTION:When a cast iron engine using methanol as fuel is driven, formic acid produced by the combustion of methanol corrodes the engine. In order to prevent the corrosion, the inside of the cylinder bore in the engine is coated with Ni and Cr powders by thermal spraying, PVD or other method, and the powders are melted by means of TIG arc and alloyed with part of the cast iron to form a solid soln. layer of an Fe-Ni-Cr alloy contg. 1-80wt% Ni and 1-20wt% Cr. The solid soln. layer acts as a protective film and prevents the corrosion of the inside of the cast iron cylinder bore by formic acid.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce cost by forming Fe-Cr system alloy of specified composition on a face surface to ensure the face surface performance equivalent to that of prior stellite by the use of economical material. CONSTITUTION:A valve body 2 is formed on the face base surface 3 with an alloy layer 1 consisting of 10-60wt% of Cr, 1-8wt% of C and total 5-20wt% of one or at least two kinds of Mo, Ni, W, B, Si, Co and the remaining Fe to constitute a face surface 4 with this alloy layer 1.
