PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation device capable of effectively emitting ultraviolet light even in a narrow part.SOLUTION: In a light irradiation device, a long body 20 has elastically restorable flexibility. An LED chip 10 is tightly fixed to a tip 22 of the long body 20 and emits ultraviolet light. A covering part 12 covers and protects the LED chip 10, while passing therethrough the ultraviolet light emitted from the LED chip 10. A conductive part 24 extends in a longitudinal direction of the long body 20 and flows a current for causing the LED chip 10 to emit light. An insulating part 26 covers the conductive part 24 and ensures electrical insulation for the conductive part 24. A bending mechanism may be further provided which is arranged in the vicinity of the tip 22 for bending the vicinity of the tip 22. In addition, a control part may be further provided which can control, from an end on an opposite side to the tip 22 of the long body 20, the bending direction by the bending mechanism.

SOLUTION: A method comprises acts of determining the transmissivity of at least a portion of a bandage 51 to ultraviolet light, and selecting an intensity of ultraviolet light to be applied through at least a portion of the bandage. This invention relates to a method of sterilizing or disinfecting a region underneath a bandage on a patient. Further, this invention relates to a method for sterilizing or disinfecting a region of tissue 5 of a patient. The apparatus comprises an ultraviolet light-emitting lamp 7 and a bandage adapted to transmit at least some of the ultraviolet light emitted by the lamp. Disclosed is a system and method for treatment of skin disorders. More particularly, the disclosed invention is directed toward the reduction of acne and acne related bacteria using low-intensity light therapy. In an illustrative embodiment, skin containing acne bacteria is treated with a series of pulses of light from a light emitting diode. The LED has a dominant emissive wavelength of about 660 nm and an energy output of about 4 mW. The acne bacteria-containing tissue is exposed to pulses from the light source about 100 times for about 250 milliseconds per pulse, with an interpulse interval of about 100 milliseconds.
