PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely producing a solid acid with high ion-exchange capacity, catalytic performance and proton conductivity and excellent in heat resistance without using any special apparatus, to provide the resultant solid acid, and to provide a proton-conductive membrane, solid acid catalyst, ion-exchange membrane, membrane-electrode conjugate, and fuel cell, each using the solid acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing the solid acid comprises the following process: Polyaniline and an aromatic compound are subjected to heat treatment in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst under ordinary pressure, and the resultant polycondensation product is sulfonated with a sulfonating agent. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining the amount of formaldehyde contained in a sample of a compound (an aminomethanesulfonic acid compound) having an aminomethanesulfonic acid group represented by formula I. SOLUTION: After mixing the sample containing the aminomethanesulfonic acid compound with ammonium acetate, acid, and acetylacetone, absorbance of 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-hydrolutidine contained in the obtained mixture is measured. The absorbance can be also measured, while fractionating the sample by liquid chromatography.
