Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the heat control device of an air/fuel ratio sensor for reducing a period where a combustion state becomes unstable due to the use of a heavy fuel. SOLUTION: When the cancellation of a door lock is detected (step 100), the start of preheating is permitted (step 104) and it is judged whether fuel used for an internal engine is a heavy fuel or not (step 106). When fuel used for the internal engine is a nonheavy fuel, a target temperature Tc is set to T2 (step 110). When the fuel used for the internal engine is a heavy fuel, the target temperature Tc is set to T1 that is higher than T2 (step 108). Then, the amount of conduction to the heater is controlled so that the sensor temperature T can reach the target temperature T1. As this result, when the heavy fuel is in used, the sensor temperature T reaches an activation temperature faster and the air/fuel ratio feedback control is started readily.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the heater control device of an air/fuel ratio sensor for saving power by preventing unneeded preheating. SOLUTION: When the insertion of an ignition key into a key cylinder, the seating of a driver, the opening operation of a door, or the cancellation of door lock is detected, the ignition of an internal engine is predicted for starting preheating. For example, when the insertion of the ignition key into the key cylinder is detected (step 100), it is judged that the possibility of starting the internal engine is extremely high, and a target temperature Tc of a sensor temperature T is set to the highest T1 (step 102). Also, when the sealing of the driver is detected while no ignition key has been inserted (step 104), the target temperature Tc of the sensor temperature T is set to T2 that is lower than T1 (step 108).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep an activated state of an air-fuel ratio sensor even when the sensor is cooled by exhaust gas after starting an engine, in a heater control device having function for preheating the air-fuel ratio sensor. SOLUTION: Execution of preheating is allowed by opening door, etc., (step 100). Afterward, temperatures T of air-fuel ratio sensors 62, 63 are sensed (step 104). An idling engine speed in first idling is estimated based on water temperature THW (step 106). A target temperature Tc is determined based on the idling engine speed (step 108). In this case, the higher the idling engine speed is, the higher the target temperature TC is set. The sensor temperature T is controlled for the target value TC by duty-controlling current carrying to a heater 68 (steps 110, 112, 114).

CONSTITUTION:When an acceleration state, e.g., a throttle opening speed, detected by an acceleration state detecting means C, exceeds a set value, rapid closing of, for example, a bypass control valve causes control of a supercharging state. A set value is varied with a transmission ratio detected by a transmission ratio detecting means E. During low gear running, a set value is increased to decrease production of an acceleration shock, and during high gear running, a set value is decreased to improve a supercharging response.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve fuel consumption rate by increasing the set value of releasing a clutch from engagement when a speed change position is under a high gear condition so as to leave out needless engagement at high gear ratio. CONSTITUTION:A load detecting means 4 detects the current load of an engine. A load reduction judging means 4a detects the change toward the direction of reducing load, in other words, whether load changes in the direction for releasing a clutch 3a from engagement. A gear position is detected by a speed change position detecting means 5, the set value for switching to release a clutch from engagement is set to be large at high gear ratio and to be small at low gear ratio. In other works, the degree of hysteresis becomes small or zero at high gear ratio. Depending on the values of the measured load and the set load, a comparison means 7p produces a clutch releasing signal, which is delayed by a delay means 8 to be transmitted to the clutch 3a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption as well as to improve a rate of fuel consumption, by making a controller perform the lowering of cooling capacity on the basis of delay time, according to a revolving speed at the time of transition, when the cooling capacity by electromotion of an intercooler shifts from a supercharging state to its cut state. CONSTITUTION:Pressure sir out of a supercharger 16 enters the inside of a combustion chamber 22 via an intercooler 18. A control unit 34, inputting a suction air quantity 12 and an engine speed 50, controls a bypass control valve 38, a fuel injection device 24, a clutch 30 of the supercharger and a motor fan 42 controlling cooling capacity of the intercooler 18. This motor fan detects a fact that an engine comes into a state of being supercharged, from the engine speed and the suction air quantity, performing the specified cooling. If transition time from a supercharging state to a non-supercharging state is detected, it delays the time corresponding to the engine speed at the time of transition, stopping operation of the motor fan. With this constitution, the motor fan is operated as long as the irreducible minimum alone.

A reference value NO is found based on the sensor temperature T (step 162), and if an engine speed NE is in excess of the reference value NO, the repowering of a heater 68 of air/fuel ratio sensors 58, 60 is permitted, and if the engine speed NE is less than the reference value NO, the repowering of the heater 68 is prohibited (steps 164, 160, 166).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and accurately execute fault diagnosis when the device is composed of an air-fuel ratio sensor and its peripheral circuits. SOLUTION: The temperature of an oxygen ion conductive element in a sensor body is about 700 deg.C, and the element impedance becomes about 30 Ωat normal times. When a wire is broken in the sensor body or in a sensor body drive circuit, the current becomes zero and the element impedance becomes an infinite value. When a heater deteriorates, the element temperature rises only up to about 550 deg.C at the most, and the element impedance becomes about 150 Ω. When a wire is broken in the heater or in a heater drive circuit, the element is heated only by exhaust gas, and therefore, the element temperature rises only up to about an exhaust gas temperature and the element impedance shows an impedance value corresponding to the element temperature of about 300 deg.C. Three reference values Z1, Z2 and Z3 are set up and compared with an element impedance detection value, to thereby diagnose faults.
