Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a catalytic component firm and to support the component in large quantities, by forming an intermediate layer having a good adhesiveness to the surface of a heat resistant metal base material and forming a ceramic coating layer on the surface of the intermediate layer by plasma spraying so as to incline the same by 45-70 deg. from the normal line of the surface of the base material. CONSTITUTION:For example, a stainless steel plate having a thickness of 0.3mm is used as a base material and, after No. 60 baked alumina is applied to both surfaces of the base material 1 under pressure to perform blasting treatment, a self-bonding spraying powder consisting of 80 Ni - 20 Al having 100-250 mesh is applied to the base material 1 to form an intermediate layer 3 having a thickness of 50mum. This intermediate layer has surface unevenness of 30-40mum, and a large number of internal voids are also present in the layer 3. Subsequently, an alumina powder of 100-250 mesh is applied to the intermediate layer 3 using a plasma spraying gun 2 to form a ceramic layer 4 composed of alumina. In this case, plasma spraying is performed so that the spraying gun 2 is inclined by an angle theta of 45-70 deg. from the normal line of the base material 1.

CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy such as an Al-Si alloy for casting is used as a base material. The surface of the base material is alloyed with an element which contributes toward lowering the coefft. of thermal expansion of the Al alloy forming the base material, e.g., Si to form an alloyed layer, e.g., an alloyed layer having a higher Si content than the base material. A ceramic layer is then formed on the surface of the alloyed layer by thermal spraying to obtain a member provided with thermally sprayed ceramic.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a sliding member having excellent wear resistance and seizure resistance by subjecting a rough shape material molded of hypereutectic Si-Al alloy powder to hot working and remelting the sliding surface thereof by irradiation of high-density energy then cooling the material at an adequate temp. decreasing rate. CONSTITUTION:The rough shape material of a bar shape, etc. is molded by preliminarily molding the hypereutectic Si-Al alloy powder. The sliding member having a prescribed shape is formed from such rough shape material by hot working after partial degassing or without making a degassing treatment at all. The high-density energy such as TIG arc or laser is irradiated to at least the sliding surface of the above-mentioned sliding member to remelt the surface and the molten surface is cooled at a temp. decreasing rate of 0.1-7.0 deg.C/sec. A sliding layer consisting of primary crystal silicon having 25-100mum grain size and 2-30% porosity is thus formed on at least the sliding surface down to the depth of >=0.1mm from the surface. The sliding member made by Al powder metallurgy having the improved wear resistance and seizure resistance and the excellent strength, toughness and heat resistance is thus obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent thermal deformation and the occurrence of cracks by forming an intermediate layer having good thermal conductivity between a thermal spraying layer formed on a sliding surface and a base metal. CONSTITUTION:A disc rotor body 1 is cast by gray cast iron, and an intermediate layer 2 made of copper is formed on a sliding surface of the disc rotor body by electroplating. Subsequently, mixed power composed of 36% Fe, 50% Cr, 4% C, and 10% Mo is plasma-sprayed to form a thermal spraying layer. The thickness of the intermediate layer 2 is preferably 1/5-1 of the thickness of the thermal spraying layer 3. Accordingly, thermal conductivity can be improved, so that a rise in surface temperature of the thermal spraying layer 3 is restrained to reduce thermal deformation and improve durability.

CONSTITUTION:The alloyed layer 10 is formed on the surfaces in the inter-valve parts 5 and inter-valve-chamber parts 6, 7 of the cylinder head 1 by fixing aluminum powder 9 into grooves 8 and using a TIG arc, etc. The alloyed layer 10 is welded to >=0.5mm depth and contains 0.1-10wt% aluminum. The alloyed layer is instantaneously cooled by the cooling power of the cylinder head 1 and is solidified without using special means. The fine structure is thus obtd. The cracks to be generated in the inter-valve parts, etc., are considerably decreased and the cost is reduced by the above-mentioned operation. The machining is made easy.

Said layer is instantaneously cooled by the cooling power of the cylinder head 1 and is solidified without using special means. The fine structure is thus obtd. Said layer is subjected to machining and the cylinder head is obtd. as a final product. The cracks to be generated in the inter-valve parts, etc., are considerably decreased and the cost is reduced by the above-mentioned operation. The machining is made easy.

CONSTITUTION:A thermally sprayed chromium layer 8 and an alloyed chill layer 9 are respectively formed on the surfaces between the inter-valve parts 5 and parts 6, 7 between the valve and chamber of the cylinder head 1 by using chromium powder or molybdenum powder and using plasma spraying and TIG arc. The alloyed chill layer is welded down to >=0.5mm depth from the surface and is incorporated therein with 0.3-2.0wt% chromium and molybdenum. The alloyed chill layer 9 is then heated for 1-10min at 950-1,050 deg.C and is then allowed to cool, by which the alloyed layer 10 is obtd. The cracks to be generated between the valves, etc. are considerably decreased and the cost is reduced by the above-mentioned operation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the adhesive strength between a piston and a thermal sprayed layer and to improve the peel resistance by roughening the part of the top part of the piston to be thermally sprayed, undercoating the part and then thermal spraying a ceramic material. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle hole part 2 is formed on the top part of a position 1 partitioning a combustion chamber with a cylinder block and a cylinder head, and a reflecting mirror 3 is provided at a position in the direction of an axis passing through the center. Laser light 4 is irradiated on the reflecting mirror 3 by using Q switching pulse laser and condensed with a lens, the piston 1 is rotated at 1 r.p.m. and the angle of the reflecting mirror 3 is slowly changed. Consequently, plural rugged parts are formed at a prescribed pitch on the nozzle hole part 2 of the piston 1. Shot blasting is applied to the extent that the recessed part of the rugged part is not deformed, a substrate thermal sprayed layer is formed and then a ceramic material is thermally sprayed. Accordingly, a ceramic thermal sprayed layer is tightly bonded to the nozzle hole part 2 in a short time.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain cast iron parts having superior resistance to corrosion by formic acid by forming Fe-Sn solid soln. layers on the surfaces of cast iron parts by the alloying of Sn. CONSTITUTION:When a cast iron engine using methanol as fuel is driven, formic acid is produced by the combustion of methanol and corrodes the engine. In order to prevent the corrosion, Sn powder is thermally sprayed on the inside of the cylinder bore in the engine, and the thermally sprayed Sn layer is alloyed with part of the cast iron by means of TIG arc to form a solid soln. layer of an Fe-Sn alloy having 0.1-5wt% average concn. of Sn. The solid soln. layer acts as a protective layer which prevents the corrosion of the cast iron by formic acid, so the cast iron engine using methanol as fuel is put to practical use.
