The photoreceptor drum 2 and the intermediate transfer belt 1 have a different linear velocity from each other during image formation. A second sensor unit 332 reads a latent image scale formed in a photoreceptor drum. When an image is transferred from the photoreceptor drum to the intermediate transfer belt, on the basis of the information read by the sensor units, a position of the image on the photoreceptor drum is controlled to be coincident with the image on the intermediate transfer belt. The first and second sensor units 331, 332 are integrally held by a holding member 340, and arranged so as to be held between the photoreceptor drum and the intermediate transfer belt. Changes in relative position between the sensor units to be caused by temperature change or error factors, such as difference in vibration of the sensor units, in matching images can be reduced, accordingly.
