PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cultivation and aquaculture systems which use a cogeneration in which power is generated by using volatile organic compounds as fuel.SOLUTION: A cultivation system cultivates plants by using carbon dioxide and fertilizer supplied from a power generating facility using volatile organic compounds as fuel, a facility which collects and supplies carbon dioxide occurring at the time of power generation, a facility which supplies cold/hot water by utilizing waste heat given off at the time of power generation and a facility which produces fertilizer and bait from biomass feedstock. An aquaculture system farms aquatic lives by using the bait and the cold/hot water.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gene sequences and proteins related to Alzheimer's disease, and uses thereof.SOLUTION: The invention describes the identification, isolation, sequencing, and characterization of two human presenilin genes, PS-1 and PS-2. The mutations of the genes lead to familial Alzheimer's disease. Presenilin gene homologues in mice, C. elegans, and D. melanogaster are also identified. Nucleic acids and proteins comprising presenilin or derived therefrom are useful in screening and diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, identifying and developing therapeutics for treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and production of cell lines and transgenic animals useful as models of Alzheimer's disease.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermostatic cover for attempting to control the temperature in a nest box of a pollinator without using a power source.SOLUTION: The thermostatic cover 1 for covering a nest box 2 of a pollinator comprises three plate parts 3a, 3b, and 3c. The plate parts 3a, 3b and 3c comprise there layers which are an outer heat insulating material 9 provided an outside, a latent heat storage material 12 of which melting point is at a normal temperature provided in a middle, and an inner heat insulating material 10 provided an inside. The outer heat insulating material 9 has a satisfactory heat insulation capacity and the inner heat insulating material 10 has an unsatisfactory heat insulating capacity.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for introducing an RNA into a living cell to inhibit gene expression of a target gene in that cell.SOLUTION: The process may be practiced ex vivo or in vivo. The RNA has a region with double-stranded structure. Inhibition is sequence-specific in that the nucleotide sequences of the duplex region of the RNA and of a portion of the target gene are identical. The present invention is distinguished from prior art interference in gene expression by antisense or triple-strand methods.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance an oviposition rate by providing uniform natural environment from collection to oviposition of fireflies.SOLUTION: A collection box is composed of sides made of net surfaces through which the inside is visible and natural wind flows for holding captured firefly imagos. A container filled with water is placed on the inner bottom of the collection box, and a Saran (R) net is dented in such a way as to be partly soaked in the water in the container and dry sphagnum is placed on the net to make an oviposition floor.
