    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain the required ester in high yield by using a calix- allene-polyethylene glycol condensate as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective ester of formula R3-O-CO-R4 is produced by reacting a compound of formula R3X(R3 is alkyl; X is halogen) with a compound of formula R4COOM (R4 is alkyl; M is Na, K or Li) in a solvent (e.g. methylene chloride, chloride, chloroform, acetonitrile, dioxane or N,N-dimethylformamide) in the presence of a compound of formula (R1 and R2 are alkyl or H; n is 4-8; m is 0-20) as a catalyst preferably at the boiling temperature of the solvent. The catalyst is easily recovered and reused by making adsorbed on alumina, silica gel, activated carbon or active clay after the reaction and desorbed with methanol or ethanol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for selectively esterifying alcoholic hydroxyl group of a phenolic derivative having the alcoholic hydroxyl group useful as a synthetic intermediate. CONSTITUTION:The subject method is a method for selectively esterifying a phenolic derivative having alcoholic hydroxyl group characterized as follows. The phenolic derivative having a group possessing the alcoholic hydroxyl group as a substituent group is made to react with an acid halide in an organic solvent using an amide or a urea derivative in combination.
